Southern Railway has often invited applications for the recruitment of Helpers. Recruitment is carried out to fill up the vacancies in departments of Electrical, Mechanical, Stores, Signal and Telecommunication. 10th passed/ITI holders can make use of this opportunity. Selection process is done via competitive written test, physical fitness test and medical test. Eligible candidates should apply for the exam before 12th October 2012.

Eligibility Criteria for ‘Helper’ Recruitment in Southern Railway

Matriculation is the basic eligibility required. Those who have completed ITI or other equivalent course can also apply. Candidates with higher educational qualifications are also eligible for submitting application. Eligible candidates must be in the age group of 18-33 years. Upper age limit specified for OBC candidates is 36 years and that for SC/ST category is 38 years.

Recruitment Process for ‘Helper’ in Southern Railway

Recruitment Process for the job position is done through three main steps.

• Written Exam
• Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
• Medical Examination

Written Exam comprises of 150 questions of objective type format. Generally questions will be asked to evaluate candidate’s knowledge in the following topics.

• Mathematics
• Reasoning
• General Awareness

Syllabus for mathematics will be based on the topics studied at class X. Negative marking for the test is employed by reducing 1 mark for every 3 wrong answers. Those who get through written examination are short listed for PET. Candidates qualified in this level will be informed on the date for document verification. In this date, candidate should reach the intended venue with original documents/certificates. The third and the last stage of recruitment process (medical examination) are done after document verification. Railway Medical Authority checks whether the candidate is physically fit in all respects.

Application Procedure for ‘Helper’ Recruitment in Southern Railway

Application fee for attending the test is Rs. 40/-. Women candidates as well as other reserved category candidates are exempted for the payment of fees. Prescribed fees can be paid in the form of Demand Draft or Indian Postal Order. Demand Draft can be taken from any of the nationalized banks of the country.
Application form published along with job notification must be used for application purpose. Only one application must be send by the candidate, since submission of multiple applications will not be considered. Instructions will be available along with job notification. Hand written applications complete in all respects should reach the office before final date. Last date specified in the case is 12-10-2012.
