Master degree holders from any of the recognized University/institute with a minimum of 55% marks can seek admission to Ph.D courses in Anna University. Ph.D courses are available in subjects of Engineering/Technology/Humanities/Science/Management Studies. Admissions are done on the basis of written test and interview. Those adequate score in UGC NET/GATE/SLET are exempted from the written test.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D in Anna University

Master degree holders from any of the recognized University/institute are eligible to apply. The qualification must be obtained with a minimum of 55% marks. In case of SC/ST candidates the minimum percentage of required is 50. But for M.A (English) candidates from all categories need to have at least 50% marks.

Bachelor degree holders in Engineering or Technology with a minimum of 15 years of experience in research and development can also apply. The insisted qualification must be obtained from any of the National Research Laboratories or public sector undertakings.

Candidates applying for Ph.D in Engineering/Technology must hold M.E/M.Tech/M.S (By Research) in the concerned stream of engineering. M.Sc /M.A (English)/ M.S (By Research) holders are eligible to apply for Ph.D in Science and Humanities. Those applying for Ph.D in Management Studies must have any of the following educational qualifications.

  • Master of Business Administration
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management
  • M.S (By Research) in Management Sciences

For Ph.D. Degree in Architecture and Planning, applicant must possess any of the any of the given qualifications.

  • Master of Architecture
  • Master of Planning
  • M.S (By Research) in Architecture and Planning

Those applying for part time Ph.D courses must be full time teachers in Government/Government Aided/ self financing colleges of Tamil Nadu. Regular employees working in industrial units or research and development centers are also eligible.

Admission process for Ph.D in Anna University

Selection of eligible candidates is made through written test and interview. Written test is based on the topics covered under qualifying degree. In interview, candidates can expect questions from the proposed research area. Those with adequate score in UGC NET/GATE/SLET are exempted from the written test.

Application Procedure for Ph.D in Anna University

Application forms for admissions can be downloaded from the web site of Anna University. Filled up application form must be send along with application fee to the address of the Director (Research), Anna University. Application fee of Rs. 600/- must be paid in the form of DD. Apart from DD, applicant must enclose some other documents along with the application form. Photocopies of certificates from SSC to PG, Community Certificate, Experience Certificate (if required), a brief of research proposal, etc are the other documents to be sent.
