The institute has campus spreaded over an area of 520 acres in Kamand. The institute is an autonomous body which is the youngest Indian Institute of Technology in India. The institute was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The permanent campus of the institute is under construction along Uhl River.
