Bachelor’s in Veterinary Science is a full time course of 5 years duration which includes a total of 9 semesters. The students are put in to a detailed internship program for about 6 months. This period helps the students to face the new challenges in the area of animal poultry and disease management. Apart from this small and large clinical works, laboratory works are also part of the above mentioned course.

Veterinary science is concerned with the medical care of animals. This science includes the application of various principles such as

These medical principles are applied in treatment of animals in general.

Eligibility Criteria for B.V.SC

The candidate should have completed his 12th class with Science subjects such as Physics, chemistry, biology as the main subjects during the time of the exam, to be eligible for the graduate course in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry.

Admission Procedure for B.V.SC

The admission to the exams is based on the results of the entrance examinations which are conducted by the particular universities. The Veterinary Council of India conducts an AICEE for admission to BVSc degree course. This is aimed at filling up around 15% of the total number of seats in each Veterinary college in all the states. The entrance exam is conducted mainly in the month of May each year. An All India Entrance Examination is conducted by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) for admission in to the Masters programme.

Veterinary Science is concerned with diagnosing, care for and curing a range of diseases in birds and animals. Generally it covers the study of animal physiology, handling and avoidance of diseases among them. The very principle of Veterinary science is similar to that of human medical sciences. But on the other hand the job profile is a bit different when compared to a physician or a surgeon in particular. The veterinary science not only is concerned with taking care of animals but also regarding the scientific breeding and reproduction of livestock.

The major role of a veterinary doctor involves in the protection of livestock and household animal wealth. Vets also perform surgery; put a stop to spreading of diseases in animals by giving in timely vaccination and medicines.

The remuneration in this area of job depends mainly on the specialization as well as the kind of practice they are involved in. Standard earnings a vet can receive will range drastically in between Rs.5, 000 to Rs.50, 000 per month. Private practicing doctors will receive a monetary returns depending upon his experience. A Vet will receive a fee ranging from Rs.100 – Rs. 500 per patient. This will depend on the type of medical treatment the animal needs. As an Assistant Professor, a vet can earn a salary over Rs 40000 a month. There are job openings in the government sector too as livestock development officers, and the salary offered will come around Rs. 8,000 per month depending on position and experience.
