Tamil Nadu Government’s Home Department has invited applications from eligible Practicing Advocates/Pleaders and Assistant Public Prosecutors and from fresh law graduates for the position of Civil Judge to work for the Tamil Nadu State Judicial Service and here are the details regarding this direct recruitment:

Name of the Vacancy: Civil Judge

Number of Vacancies: Total number of vacancies is 185, which is divided among the different category of candidates as follows:

General Turn – 56

SC – 29

SC (Arunthathiyars on Preferential basis) – 06

ST – 02

BC (Other than BC Muslims) – 49

MBC and Denotified Communities – 37

Backward Class Muslims – 06

Reservation for women and physically challenged candidates will be according to government rules.

Eligibility requirements:

For practicing advocates/pleaders and Assistant Public Prosecutors: Candidates must possess degree  in law from a recognized university and they should also be registered with Bar Council of Tamil Nadu. In the case of candidates registered with Bar Council of other states, they will have to submit a proof of their transfer of enrolment to the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu. In addition, they must be practicing as a pleader or as an advocate in high court of its subordinate courts for at least three years on the date of notification. Even Assistant Public Prosecutors with minimum three years experience as an advocate/Assistant Public Prosecutor are eligible to apply. For Fresh law graduates: Candidates must be fresh law graduates from a recognized university and must be eligible for enrolment as advocates, they must also have secured not less than 50% of marks at the graduation course (45% for reserved category candidates). In addition, they must have obtained their degree within three years prior to the date of notification, which is 21st of January 2012.

Age: For practicing advocates, the minimum age requirement is 25 years and maximum age requirement is 35 for general category candidates and 40 for reserved category candidates. For Fresh graduates, minimum age requirement is 22 years and maximum age requirement is 27 years for all category candidates.

Selection Procedure:

Selection will be based on performance of candidates in written test, which will be conducted for two days with four papers. The first day is 24th of March 2012 with translation paper in the morning session and law paper-I during the afternoon session. The second day is 25th of March 2012 with Law Paper – II in the morning session and law paper-III during the afternoon session. Followed by written test, there will also be viva-voce.
