College of Home Science is a constituent unit of the Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University and the college came into existence in the year 1964. The college is mandated with the responsibility of enhancing the standards of rural communities and families in particular and individuals in general through extension, research and teaching activities and to work for the empowerment of girl children and women in urban and rural households through service support to communities and industries and through self-employment.

Courses offered:

Being working as the faculty of home science of the Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University, College of Home Science offers home science courses at UG, PG and Ph. D levels of education in the following specializations:

• Journalism & Mass Communication

• Apparel Production & Management

• Organization and Management of Early Childhood Programmes

• Interior Design

• Nutrition & Dietetics

Admissions:

Admission to the UG course in home science is offered to students, who have completed their intermediate with any of the subject combinations of mathematics, biological sciences and physical sciences. At present, the intake capacity of the institution for this course is 80 students, which is expected to rise by 100 students per year. Previously, admission of students to the UG home science course was done through EAMCET, but from the year 2000, the programme was delinked from the EAMCET examination and at present admission is done based on the merit secured by the candidates in the qualifying examination marks.

Admission of students to the PG course in home science (i.e.) M. Sc home science is done based on their performance in the entrance examination and candidates getting admission to this course will get a stipend of Rs.1800 per month for 20 months during their course period. Admission to Ph. D programme is based on past merit secured by the students in the PG degree examination in home science and candidates admitted for Ph. D course will get a stipend of Rs.2000 per month for 25 months during their course period.

Certificate courses:

In addition to the afore-mentioned regular courses offered by the College of Home Science, several other short-term certificate courses are also offered for candidates, who have completed their class X examination. The maximum duration of these courses is 45 days and minimum duration is one day.

Students’ welfare facilities in the college:

For the welfare of the current students of the college of Home Science, it has a gym centre, hostel facility and placement cell to offer counseling and guidance for higher studies and job placements. On the other hand, for the welfare of the past students of the college an Alumni Association is also functioning under the College of Home Science.
