Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is Asia’s first institute to offer courses related to space science, technology and applications. It is India’s national level institute dedicated for the study of space science, located at Trivandrum, Kerala. It offers graduate, post graduate and doctoral level courses in space science. The institute is promoted by Indian Space Research Organization.

In addition to this, the institute offers part time PhD programme for employees of Department of Space.

Admission Procedure

Admission to undergraduate programmes is made through the entrance test called IIST Admission Test (ISAT). Candidates who have secured 60% marks in matriculation and 70% marks in higher secondary examination are eligible to apply. Application form can be obtained from the official website of the institution. Admission is based on the scores obtained in the entrance test and marks obtained in the qualifying exam. Reserved category candidates are eligible for relaxation as per the government rules applicable to Central Educational Institution.

Admission to post graduate programmes is based on Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score. Candidates having first class marks in graduation or Master of Science programmes are eligible to apply. Candidates below the age of 28 years at the time of admission are eligible to apply. Reserve category candidates can avail the age relaxation as per the government norms. Application form can be downloaded by the candidates from the official website of IIST. Candidates are required to send applications in prescribed formats to the institution. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of academic records and GATE score for test and then followed by personal interview.

Admission to Doctoral programmes is made through a written test conducted by the institute. Eligible candidates can apply for the programme through the application form available in the official website of IIST. Fully filled application along with supporting documents should be sent to “The Administrative Officer, IIST, Valiamala Post, Thiruvananthapuram – 695547”.   Candidates will be short listed for the written test on the basis of their GATE/ NET scores. Final selection will be based on the score obtained in the written test and interview.
