Those meritorious sports persons who have taken part in any of the competitions at state, national and international level or inter state tournaments can apply for constable position Kolkata Police. Candidates need to take part in any of games such as wrestling, weight lifting, volley ball, tennis, table tennis, swimming; or rifle shooting to apply. Eligible candidate must have completed Madhyamik examination conducted by West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. The selection process for constable post includes – physical measurement test, physical efficiency test, written test and personal interview.

Eligibility Criteria for Constable Recruitment in Kolkata Police

Candidates need to be a meritorious sports person who have participated in either State or National or International level competitions, Inter state Tournaments in any of the following games –

  • Wrestling
  • Weight lifting
  • Volley Ball
  • Tennis
  • Table Tennis
  • Swimming
  • Rifle Shooting
  • Kho-kho
  • Kabaddi
  • Judo
  • Hockey
  • Gymnastics
  • Football
  • Cycling
  • Cricket
  • Boxing
  • Basket Ball
  • Badminton
  • Athletics including Track and Field events

It is compulsory for candidates to clear Madhyamik examination organized under West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) or any other equivalent qualifications. The age limit specified for the candidates is between 18 years to 27 years.  Candidates need to have certain minimum physical eligibility criteria’s such as –

  • Height – 167 cm
  • Weight – 55 kg
  • Chest - 78 cm with an expansion of 5 cm

Relaxation in Physical eligibility is specified for reserved category candidates.

Selection Procedure for Constable Recruitment in Kolkata Police

The selection process for the post of Constable in Kolkata Police includes the following stages –

  • Stage 1 – Physical Measurement Test
  • Stage 2 – Physical Efficiency Test
  • Stage 3 – Written Test
  • Stage 4 – Personal Interview

Physical Measurement Test - This stage involves a chest measurement, height and weight measurement using a digital measurement device.

Physical Efficiency Test - Those candidates who qualify the first stage of selection need to appear for Physical efficiency test. Candidates need to attend 1600 meters run race within a specified time limit of 6 minutes and 30 seconds.

Written Test – On qualifying the above mentioned selection stages, candidates need to attend the written examination. The written examination will be based on objective model questions comprising questions from subjects like General Knowledge, Basic English, current Affairs, Elementary Mathematics and Analytical Aptitude. The total marks allotted for the written exam is 90 marks. The test is scheduled to be completed within a time limit of 90 minutes.

Personal Interview – Those candidates who clear the written test with the specified cut off marks will be given a chance to attend Personal Interview. During interview, a higher preference will be given to those candidates who have proficiency in sports and games. A merit list of candidates selected will be put up depending on the marks secured both in written test and Personal Interview. The provisionally selected candidates need to undergo a medical examination in any of the hospital specified by Kolkata Police Recruitment Board.
