Details on UPSC deputy central intelligence officer test
Union public service commission recruits candidates to the post of central intelligence officers (technical) in Intelligence Bureau under Ministry of Home Affairs. Some of these positions are reserved for SC/ST candidates and some seats are meant for OBC candidates. Selection procedure includes objective type test followed by personal interview.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates having graduation in any of the following subjects are eligible to apply.
- Electronics Engineering
- Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Electronics and Tele-communication Engineering
- Aeronautics Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
Candidates who have completed Master degree in Computer Applications or Post graduation in Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Space Engineering or in Physics with Wireless / Electronics / Optics or Nuclear Physics as a subject from a recognized University can also apply for the test. The maximum age limit for applying to this test is not more than thirty five years at the time of the application. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category can enjoy age relaxation up to five years for the vacancies reserved for them. OBC candidates can have age relaxation up to three years. Apart from this, Central government and Union territory employees can also apply for this test and they will get age relaxation up to five years as per the prevailing norms.
Scheme and Syllabus for the Test
The written test will be in objective type multiple choice format for a maximum of 100 marks. All the questions are to be answered within a time limit of two hours. There will be negative marking for every wrong answer. Candidates who have successfully cleared the written test will be called for the personal interview which leads to the selection process. Candidates can expect questions from the following topics.

- Instrumentation
- Fundamentals of Computerization and Network
- Aptitude Data interpretation
- Data & image interpretation
- Fundamentals of Basic Electronics
- Basic Questions on Maintenance
- Communication Skills
- Scientific temper relating to basic understanding of Science including everyday observation & Experience
- Fundamentals of information security
Application Process
Candidates are required to apply for the examination in the special application format that can be downloaded from the official website of UPSC. Candidates have the option to select their examination centre in the application form. They are required to super scribe words “Application for the post of deputy central intelligence officer (Technical)’ on the top of the Envelope while sending the Application form.
