Difference between Electricity and Magnetism

Both electricity and Magnetism is the property of metallic materials by the movement of some small particles. Even though they are exhibiting the same type of property, the two fields differ in many aspects. Electricity can be said as the flow of energy through any metallic materials. Magnetism is the force of attraction or repulsion exhibited by the magnetic substances.

Electricity and its implications

Electricity is one of the most important factors in every day activities of human life. It is the property or the state in which its application is used for many purposes in the daily routines. Electricity can be said as the characteristics of particular subatomic particles like electrons and protons that may give rise to any attractive or repulsive forces. It is a typical property arising from the existence of charges. The basic unit of charges is created by the protons and electrons. The proton is positively charged and electron is negatively charged and both together create an attraction or repulsion between them. The movement of electrons in the substances creates charges and the flow of this charges through any metallic substances create electricity. The presence of electricity can be easily recognized in diverse phenomena like lightening, static electricity, flow of current through wires, etc.

Magnetismand its implications

Only one kind of magnetism was known in the earlier times, the magnetism produced by the iron magnets. But many characteristics and features of the magnetic property have been discovered in the decades that followed. All materials in the earth are some what influenced by the magnetic field like some are attracted towards this magnetic field and some repulsed by it. There are many materials which are negligibly affected by this magnetic field and they are usually called non magnetic substances. However the magnetic state of any material may depend on many factors such as temperature, pressure and various other factors and depending on these factors, the materials will display more than one form of magnetism.

Key differentiators between Electricity and Magnetism

Electricity is the property that arises from the existence of charges in a material whereas Magnetism is the property by which the materials respond to an atomic or subatomic level.

The flow of electricity is recognized through any metallic substances whereas the magnetism is exhibited by any materials depending on some peculiar factors.

Although electricity and magnetism reflects almost same property they are lots of difference between both of them.

    steven inakwu:

a uniform magnetic field is directed toward the right and a positively charged particle is moving with velocity V in the following direction.
vertically upwards B perpendicular to B magnetic field.

downwards at an angle (tita) opposite to B

upwards at an angle (tita) in the direction of B
What is the direction of the force on the particle due to the magnetism? give its magnitude in the term of magnetism B, Q and V.
What is the force on a two mega electron volt proton that enters perpendicularly in a magnetic field of strength 0.2tesla?
