Exam Pattern for Combined Medical Services Exam 2013

The pattern of Combined Medical Services Exam organized by UPSC comprises of a written examination and Personality Test. An objective type written exam will be organized for a total of 500 marks divided in to two papers. Paper I will comprise of questions from subject areas like General Ability, General Medicine and Paediatrics. The general topics included in Paper II are Surgery, Preventive and Social Medicine and Gynecology and Obstetrics. Those candidates who are able to clear written exam can attend personality test which will conducted for a total of 100 marks.

Exam Pattern for Combined Medical Services Exam

The Combined Medical Services Exam pattern will include objective type questions. The plan of the written examination is as follows –

  • Written Examination
  • Personality Test

The written examination is essentially conducted for a total of 500 marks which includes two papers –

Paper 1 - Objective Type Questions – Total marks – 250 marks – This paper includes sections which is as follows –

  • Section A – General Ability - Total questions – 30 questions
  • Section B – General Medicine - Total questions – 70 questions
  • Section C – Paediatrics - Total questions – 20 questions

Personality Test – On qualifying all the above mentioned sections in written test, candidates need to attend a personality test for a total of 100 marks organized by Union Public Service Commission. Candidates will be mainly tested in specific areas like General Knowledge, knowledge in specific subject area, critical skills like leadership, inter personal and intellectual skills.
