Every department in private sector as well as public sector organizations is composed of different posts/ranks. Basically, the senior most ranks is assisted by a particular posts which is further assisted by other ranks. Now, similarly, the departments under State Government of Tamil Nadu also comprise of various posts which includes both senior positions and other service holders assisting them. Those senior positions are categorized under Group I services and those assisting them are categorized under Group II Services,which are further assisted by Group III service holders and so on.

The Group I Services under Tamil Nadu Government comprise of the following posts:

District Registrar
Divisional Officer
Deputy Collector
Deputy Superintendent of Police
Assistant Commissioner(Commercial Tax Officer)


The Group II Services comprise of the following posts:

Assistant Commercial Tax Officer
Sub-Registrar Grade –II
Municipal Commissioner
Assistant Section Officer
Junior Employment Officer
