The above question, (can i open path. lab. after M.sc.IN Microbiology ) All replies are affirmative but nobody has given any document ,or act in support of their saying.Health is a subject of states and they differ on their laws and act.Can a person holding a degree of M.sc. you can`t open your own pathology lab. Botany is plant science subject. A pathologist or medical microbiologist only can open clinical laboratory .msc botany,and bsc botany can open a lab only for plant tissue culture or seed breading or others plants related work. Mci not allow to open a medical lab for msc botany, msc biotechnology ,msc zoology and msc agricultural science.

Eligibility for opening a med lab;-
1- pathologist or
2-microbiologist(only for micro test) or
3-immunologist (only for immune test) or
4-virologist (only for virus test) or
5-bacteriologist (only for bacterial test) or
6-paracytologist (only for para test)

Yes, you can open your own lab after completing your Msc in Microbiology but cannot label it as a pathlab until and unless you hire a qualified pathologist in your lab. A doctor with MD in Pathology would be needed to sign the reports related to Histopathology, Cytology, Haematology and Clinical Pathology.
DMLT's and BSc MLT's are not entitled to sign pathology reports.
Biochemistry and Microbiology reports could be signed by doctors of these concerned specialities but these days labs don't work without a pathologist as cancer is getting very common and only a pathologist could report it efficiently.

I am Dr. Rohith Venkat. I stumbled across this thread & found numerous queries from Msc. Bsc. & Diploma LTs about whether you can open your own diagnostic laboratory or not. The answer is Yes you can. But the thing is you cannot operate it alone. ANYONE can open a lab you don't need any degree for ownership of a lab. What you need is investment money equal to about initial 60 lakhs just for basic things. (Considering you already have premises)
Now about operating it: According to Clinical Establishment Act of Government of India, the basic hematology reports can be done by Bsc Msc Phd (Biochemistry, Microbiology &few allied subjects) & Diploma LT. BUT THE REPORT HAS TO SIGNED BY ONLY & ONLY A MBBS who has a degree in MD PATHOLOGY/LAB. MEDICINE/MICROBIOLOGY/BIOCHEMISTRY/DCP. Any laboratory who does not have these doctors as assigned report issuers is an ILLEGAL laboratory. So the gist is you can own a lab yes, you can do the routine lab tests yes, but you CANNOT sign the report. For pathology samples, the histopathology & cytopathology has to be both obviously done by & reported by only a MBBS graduate with MD in Pathology
