Re: Difference between Nautical Science and Marine Engineering?

Dear friend the difference between Nautical Science and Marine Engineering is:-

Nautical science:-

Nautical science refers to the basic knowledge required to safely navigate and operate
a ship.

- navigation, which is how to plot positions and courses to track movement through
water, and rules of the road required for safe navigation.

- seamanship, which is the basic operation of shipboard equipment and tools, as well as
damage control procedures.

Marine Engineering:-

Marine engineers design, operate, maintain, and repair the mechanical systems of
ships. Working closely with the architect who designs the ship structure, a marine
engineer designs the propulsion, auxiliary power machinery, and other equipment
needed to run the ship.

Best of luck..........

Re: Difference between Nautical Science and Marine Engineering?

Nautical Science is the study of operating a vessel at sea, including topics such as navigation, ship stability and handling, propulsion, and meteorology.

Marine Engineering can refer to:
a) the design of ship's propulsion & auxiliary systems, or
b) the operation of ship's machinery at sea.

Thus nautical science, at least in the referenced curriculum, combines "deck" issues with "engineering" issues. You might also check out the US merchant marine academy or various state merchant marine academies (NY, TX etc), which would also offer both focal areas.

Marine engineering would reduce the scope to ship's machinery (& possibly design) topics, but increase the depth of the study. Merchant marine academies would typically offer "marine engineering" operations topics, whereas naval architecture programs (Webb Institute, U of Mich, UNO etc) usually offer "marine engineering" deisgn topics.

Outside the USA, the terms can vary further. Naval engineering, marine science etc.

hai
marine engineering is a specilized of study which deals with engineering aspect of marine releated equipment found on board ships, boats and so farth.in fact it is very vast subject and there are several releated fields to study such as naval articture which may not directly fall under the preview of marine engineering
The nautical science foundation degree is the first step towards being a captain on a cruise liner taking passengers around the world or navigating a 500,000 tonne merchant ship.

Wheras merchant navy comprises many different shipping companies with vessels ranging from 500 to 500,000 tonnes in size.

1.nautical science:-

nautical sciences cadets are trained seafarers capable of using technological and navigational equipment on a wide range of ships, from large passenger cruise ships to cargo vessels. Cadets receive instruction and training based on seamanship and traditional maritime skills in areas such as:

-officer of the watch training.
-marine communications and navigation.
-rescue, safety and environmental response.
-security threat response and vigilance.
-safe carriage of goods.

Programs offered:-

-the nautical sciences diploma is a 4 year co-operative education program for students entering the merchant marine as trainee deck officers.
You will be given assistance to find suitable employment throughout your cooperative training period to obtain your certificate of competency.

Duration :-

4 yerars.

Re: Difference between Nautical Science and Marine Engineering?

Dear friend,

if you want an interesting degree and career path and possibly be paid for your studies? If so, this could well be the degree for you!

The nautical science foundation degree is the first step towards being a captain on a cruise liner taking passengers around the world or navigating a 500,000 tonne merchant ship.

Wheras merchant navy comprises many different shipping companies with vessels ranging from 500 to 500,000 tonnes in size.

2. Marine enigineering:-

• specialization:-

-marine engineers design, operate, maintain, and repair the mechanical systems of ships. Working closely with the architect who designs the ship structure, a marine engineer designs the propulsion, auxiliary power machinery, and other equipment needed to run the ship.

-they are employed by private firms that build ships or make the equipment used in them.

-they may specialize in certain kinds of equipment such as pumps, engines, gears, heaters, or deck machinery. Others concentrate on certain steps in shipbuilding, such as estimating the cost of the equipment needed. Still others may deal largely with one area of a ship's functions, such as lubrication.

-marine engineers may also be inspectors. Inspectors make sure that the equipment works properly before the ship is launched.

Some engineers specialize in the repair and maintenance of a ship when it is in dry dock.they are sometimes responsible for installing equipment in ships. They may, for example, supervise the crews that install electrical equipment.

Education and training requirement:-

-a bachelor's degree in ocean engineering, mechanical engineering, or marine engineering is required to enter the field.

-undergraduate programs for prospective candidates should include mechanics, hydraulics, materials testing, electrical theory and practice, and mathematics.

-an individual who wants to work as an engineering officer in the merchant marine must be licensed. To qualify for a license, candidates must be a graduate of the u.s. Merchant marine academy or one of the six state academies. They must also pass a written exam, physical tests, and have some sea experience.

Duration:-

4 years degree..

Hope this hjelps you..

Re: Difference between Nautical Science and Marine Engineering?

Both are releated to marine. There are some differences.

1> You can do B.SC in Nautical Science.
Other hand you can do B.TECH in Marine Engineering.
2> In Nautical Science you will teach the cargo handling, Ship board work etc...
In Marine Engineering you will teach maintenance of whole ship.

Now a days Marine Engineering is lead Nautical Science in the field of job.

After doing Marine Engineering from a well known college you can secure your future by getting high salary.

After doing Nautical Science your chances of getting high salary job is decreased.

You should do your masters on Nautical Science.

Time will be greater in Nautical Science to get established..

According to me Marine Engineering is great between those.
