Frankly it does not matter whether you do diploma first followed by Engineering or direct B.Tech after completing 12th. You must have a graduation degree for IAS.

The advantage of doing diploma first is that it would make B.Tech little easy to understand however only if you are doing b.Tech in same branch in which you completed diploma. Changing streams is not something that I would advice.

However doing 12th first would give a chance to change your mind. If you have second thought about Engineering then it would still be possible to pick another course. You can not do the same after completing diploma course. Another benefit of doing 12th is that you can seek admission in top B.tech institutes like IITs and NITs. Both these institutes do not offer admission to diploma candidates.

The bottom line is that both ways would hardly make any difference for you IAS aspirantion. You can still appear for the IAS exam. Please check the eligibility criteria below:

Eligibility

1. You must be Indian citizen.

2. A minimum of Bachelor degree in required.

Age Limit

General - 21 to 30 years

OBC - 21 to 33 years

SC/ST - 21 to 35 years

Exam Pattern

1) Preliminary Exam

2) Main Exam

Attempts

General - 4

OBC - 7

SC/ST - no restriction

You should go for B.Tech engineering to appear for IAS exam. As graduate from any discipline can appear for Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC every year.

After 10+2 you should go for any B.Tech courses by cracking various engineering entrance exam like AIEEE, IIT JEE or State JEE to become IAS officer by appearing the Civil Services Exam. You should be within age group of 21 to 30 years though there is age relaxation for reserved category candidate.

dear friend,
You want to become an IAS officer in future then you have to appear in IAS exam , which is conducted by UPSC every year.

The eligibility criteria for IAS exam:-

1.Candidate must have complete the graduation in any trade.

2.Candidate should not have any pending backlogs during graduation.

3.Age should be in between 21-30 years.
For SC/ST the upper age relaxation is 5 years and for OBC the upper age relaxation is 3 years.

4.Candidate must be a citizen of India.

These are the eligibility criteria you have to fulfill.

So, it does not matter that you have complete your graduation in which way, all you need is you just have to complete the graduation any how to appear in IAS exam.

All the best.

Well, there is no use to go for diploma to degree in mechanical as it will waste your time & the worth you will get is equivalent to the other candidates. So it is better for you to opt an Engineering course for mechanical in order to become an IAS officer.

The eligibility criteria for the ISA exam is as under-

1. Candidate must have completed HIS Graduation with any of the stream from a recognized university.

2. Candidates who have appeared for final year exams of Graduation and waiting for the results can also apply for this exam.

3. One should be in the age group of 21-30 years in order to be eligible for this exam. However the OBC & SC candidates must get an age relaxation of 3 & 5 years respectively.

Dear pal,
to apply for the IAS exam conducted by the union public service commission you require a bachelor degree from any discipline. You can choose other than engineering too.
If you are interested in both mechanical as well as in administrative service then the right option will be doing your degree course as doing diploma will increase the duration of your study .
But if you choose engineering you can apply for the exam soon. If you prefer ias you can do a three year degree course also. Choose your degree discipline in such a way that it has optional subject for the ias exam. Mechanical engineering is also a good field where lot of jobs are available. With engineering degree you can alre apply for engineering service exam also. The selection procedure includes aptitude exam, main exam followed by personnel interview.

Re: Should I go for Diploma to Degree in Mechanical or Engineering in Mechanical after completion of 10+2 to become IAS Officer?

I suggest you to go for Engineering course in Mechanical in order to become IAS Officer. It is not a problem even if you have opted for 3 years degree with mechanical stream.

Have a look at the required eligibility criteria for IAS Exam.

Academic Qualification :
-One should have compelted Graduation with any of the stream from a recognized university.
-Candidates who have appeared for final year exams of Graduation and waiting for the results can also apply for this exam.

Age criteria :
-One should be in the age group of 21-30 years in order to be eligible for this exam.
-Relaxation is there in upper age limit upto 3 years for the candidates of OBC category.
-Relaxation is there in upper age limit upto 5 years for the candidates of SC/ST category.

The selection procedure to become IAS Officer is by
-CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test)
-Civil Services Main Examination
-Interview.

I suggest you to choose the optional subjecs for civil services main examination now itself and opt for Graduation in accordance with the chosen optional subjects.
