Being a Income Tax Officer is the one of the most challenging career options in India. These personnels find out tax defaulters and take them under the notice of Central Board of Direct Taxes. This work involves dealing with many influencial big guns of the society. Hence certain traits like bravery, honesty is required for this job. SSC is responsible for recruitment of most suitable candidates as ITO. Those who aspire to become an income tax officer must meet the following eligibility criteria :
  • The basic educational requirement is a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old on 1st July of the year in which he/she appears for the exam.
  • Candidates should not be older than 27 years on that date.
  • OBC candidates get relaxation on the upper limit by 3 years.
  • Candidates belonging to scheduled castes/tribes get age relaxation of 5 years on the upper limit.
  • Besides certain categories of central government employees and defence personnel are subject to relaxation norm.
Selection procedure consists of three stages-
Preliminary
Mains &
Interview.


Preliminary test has two papers - Arithmetic & English. Those who pass the preliminary stage can sit for mains exams.

Mains exam consists of 5 sections - General intelligence & general awareness, General studies, English, Arithmetic, Language and Communication & Writing Skill. In interview rounds one's personality is checked.

Notifications are published in the month of April. You can track the notifications in Employment News, Gazette of India and other leading newspapers in India.

hi sir,i have appeared for ipcc examination and now i wanted to appear for ITO examination so kind you please suggest me by giving detai information regarding eligibility and syllabus for ITO exam and also suggest me when & where should i register my self for appearing in ITO examination
