Re: Enquiry about Number of attempts in UPSC Civil Service Exam

I have made a query about the no. of attempts left with me as I have once applied for it but could not appear in the prelims exams. I don't mean that I have given the examination for once. If you please tell me only application submitted to the UPSC will be counted as an attempt or after a person appears in the prelims examination is counted as one attempt.

Re: Enquiry about Number of attempts in UPSC Civil Service Exam

(i) An attempt at a Preliminary Examination shall be deemed to be an attempt at the Examination.
(ii) If a candidate actually appears in any one paper in the Preliminary Examination, he/she shall be deemed to have made an attempt at the Examination.
(iii) Notwithstanding the disqualification/ cancellation of candidature, the fact of appearance of the candidate at the examination will count as an attempt.

So your attempt is counted as one, and now you have either 3 or 7 or unlimited attempts left, depending on your category.

Refer to the attachment for details.
