There is no Marks or Percentage restriction or the marks in 10th and 12th considered to become an IPS Officer. All you need is you must have passed 10th & 12th from a recognized Institution and for your eligibility fulfilment, you must have completed your Graduation.

Eligibility Criteria :

• You must have passed Graduation degree in any stream.

• If you are appearing in the final year exam are also eligible.

• Your age should be in between 21 to 30 years.

• There is 3 years & 5 year relaxation in upper age limit for OBC & ST/SC.

• You must have an Indian citizenship.


Physical Standard for IPS:



Eligible candidate will have to appear in civil service exam which is organized by UPSC.

i am 10 th pass & 12th pass but i didnot pass at first chance & i pass diploma in secretarial practice course, if i take graduation and apply for IPS can i be a candidate of IPS

No, For I.P.S you have to pass graduation with any stream from recognized university.
There is no percentage criteria in Civil Services Exam.

Civil Services Exam is conducted by U.P.S.C once in a year.

The age limit for I.P.S is 21-30 year.
For ST/SC candidate 21-37 year.

The maximum attempts for Open category candidate is 4 attempts.
For ST/SC candiadte thee is no limit.

There is no provision of percentage of marks criteria for application to IPS so there is no need of consideration of 10th and 12th marks for application to IPS.

IPS- INDIAN POLICE SERVICE, to become an IPS officer one has to appear and crack the Civil Service Examination conducted by UPSC every year.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years which the upper age relaxed for XC/ST candidate up to 5 years and for OBC up to 3 years.

There are certain prescribed Physical Fitness test to be overcome for those applying for IPS.

The Height for General male candidate should be 165cm and that to for female should be 150cm and for SC/ST/OBC it should be 160cm for male and for female 145cm.

The chest should be 85cm for male and that to 79cm for female candidate expandable to 5cm in both the cases.

The selection is through three phases:-

CSAT-Civil Service Aptitude Test-Preliminary Exam

Civil Service Main Exam

Personal Interview

No, there is no marks restriction for IPS at all. IPS stands for Indian Police Service & to become an IPS officer you need to crack civil service examination conducted by UPSC every year.

To eligible to appear in civil service exam, you have to complete Graduation degree in any discipline from recognized university.

One can also appear in IPS civil Service examination while in final year of Graduation course.

To appear in civil service exam you Age should be between....21 to 30 years for general candidate....21 to 33 years for obc candidate....21 to 35 years for st/sc candidate.

Both Male & female candidates are eligible for IPS but should be an Indian citizen.

To become an IPS officer you should be physically & mentally fit & should not have any physical disabilities.

Physical Standard require for IPS officer is as follows....





SELECTION for IPS officer through civil service exam has 2-stages..

-Preliminary Exam
-Mains Exam


IMPORTANT DATES for CIVIL SERVICE EXAM

-Date of issuing of application form: 04.02.2012
