Hi
The eligibility for Ias is only this that you should be a graduate from a recognized Indian university and your age should be In between 21-30years.
In prelims the mechanical engineering is not helpful but for the mains exam, there is a optional subject you can take mechanical engineering as your subject

Re: Required Qualification to give IAS Exam? Study Materials to prepare for this Exam being a candidate from BE in Mechanical Engineering?

Hello..
For preparing of IAS, first of all it is necessary to clear the prelims exam..and there after for main examination, you can chose your optional subject as mechanical engineering in which the syllabus is almost the entire core subjects, but the main emphasis is laid on the subjects like thermal, heat and mass transfer, production engineering, strength of materials. It is advisable from the toppers that you should stay in touch with your optional subjects even in the preparation of your prelims examination because in main examination, the paper is highly fundamental

** Final year candidates may also apply.

** Your age should be between 21 to 30 years.

There is age relaxation given for reserved categories.

PH- 10 yrs

unlimited in case of SC/ST till they attain the age of 35 years.

There are 3 stages of examination:

According to latest pattern Preliminary exam is known as CSAT.

You have 2 papers in this:
General awareness

If you fulfill these requirements you can fil the aplication form. Civil services exam is held every year.
