For IPS, one has to crack civil services examination being conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) every year.

The selection procedure which you have to go through to become an IPS Officer is by
-Civil Services Aptitude Test
-Civil Services Main Examination
-Interview

The minimum academic qualification that a candidate should possess to appear for CSAT Exam is Graduation with any of the stream from a recognized university.

Candidates who are pursuing final year of Graduation can also apply for this exam but they should be able to show the proof of passing in Graduation when they appear for Interview.

As per age criteria,
-A candidate should possess an age between 21-30 years to be eligible for this Exam.
-Relaxation is there in upper age limit upto 3 years for the candidates of OBC category and upto 5 years for the candidates of SC/ST category.

So, choose the stream which you are having more interest in 12th class and Graduation.

Start taking coaching and preparing for this Exam from the first year of your Graduation course.

Choose the optional subjects for Main Examination in accordance with your stream in Graduation.

You should have to score high in the written exam to be placed in IPS otherwise you might be placed in other civil services.

Keep this in mind and carry out your preparation.
