Re: What is the required education qualification for UPSC exam?

hi dear,
UPSC has prescribed a Minimum Educational Qualification for the candidates who intend to sit for the UPSC Civil Services Exam.

The candidate must hold a degree of any of the Universities which is incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions, established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. Or, candidates need to possess an equivalent qualification of the aforesaid qualification description.

UPSC does not specify the stream of studies to sit for the Civil Services Exam. A candidate can come from any stream such as Science, Arts, Commerce etc. He/she must hold a degree from the recognized University as explained above.

Educational Qualifications For UPSC Exam

There are so many exams which are conducted by the UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) like the Civil Service Exams, Engineering Services, SCRA, NDA, CDS, etc..

I think you are talking about the Civil Service Exam here as it is often confused by people as the UPSC Exam..

Candidates appearing for the Civil Services must have the following minimum qualifications :-

>> He/she must have completed bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognized institute..

>> Candidate must be within the age limit of 21-30 years, 3,5 and 10 years of age relaxation for OBC,SC/ST and PWD candidates respectively..

>> The maximum number of attempts allowed for each category is as follows :-
General Category - 4
OBC - 7
SC/ST/PWD - No limit

There are 2 stages in the written exam round :-

Prelims or CSAT :- 2 objective papers on aptitude and general awareness..

Mains :- 9 subjective papers based on your graduation knowledge as well as English..

After that you will have to clear the final interview..

I have attached some of the previous year question papers of Prelims as well as the Prelims syllabus..

You can also go to http://upsc.gov.in in case you want to clarify any doubts regarding the exam..

all the best..
