hello

There is no need of appearing both subject GRE and common GRE.
You should apply for any one of them.
Subject GRE stands for these subjects.

Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology
Biology
Chemistry
Computer Science
Literature in English
Mathematics
Physics
Psychology

If you think that you are good in your subject you should appear subject GRE
because it will reduce extra effort for preparation of English and Maths.

Re: GRE general or GRE subject based required for Ph.D abroad after M.Sc Medical Biochemistry?

I am applying for PhD in biochemistry, am from dental background the program supervisor asked me to apply for the program after he read my CV. I have to appear for subject based GRE but worried that I may not be able to get competitive score need advise as to how important are the scores here. The department website says no lower limit set by the department and it is individual basis.

hello friend.......
according to me you should go for the GRE subject rather than GRE general as your subject is biotechnology which is included in the GRE subject and in it it is easier to score...............
so best of luck

Re: GRE general or GRE subject based required for Ph.D abroad after M.Sc Medical Biochemistry?

Dear Reema

The subject GRE test contains questions from a particular subject which you are
applying for and the common GRE includes questions from Maths and English.
The Subject GRE test is for the following subjects.
* Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology
* Biology
* Chemistry
* Computer Science
* Literature in English
* Mathematics
* Physics
* Psychology

Your subject i.e. Biochemistry is included here so you should go for the subject GRE
test. It is easier to score well in subject GRE rather than common GRE.
I would suggest you to download the sample paper of subject GRE from official
website of GRE so that you can judge yourself what would be better for you.
Visit the following website for more information about subject GRE.

Thank You
