It is not necessary to appear in the GATE exam for the admission in M.tech course. But If you appear in the GATE exam, than on the basis of your marks and rank you will get the good and reputed colleges.

Hi

You are confused at present.

With your post, I could make out following points
You have following option in your hand

You may go for the job
You may go for the GATE
you may go for CAT

First you need to analyse the kind of working career you want.

If you want to join PSU, then you will have to appear for GATE as most PSU are taking candidates via GATE score.
If you wish to go for MTech then too you have to appear for GATE

If you want to go for MBA then you can appear for CAT or various other MBA entrance exam.

For GATE syllabus, you should know your b.Tech course, most preferably up till 6th semester.

For CAT, you should work for Quantitative analysis, Verbal and non Verbal, Data Interpretation etc.

All the best

Well first you need to get the priority right. Do you want PSU job or do you want to pursue MBA. Because the Common Admission Test is conducted for admission in MBA. Those who want admission in Indian Institute of Management have to appear for Common Admission Test.

I generally do not recommend MBA to the Engineering graduates. It is better that you apply for M.Tech instead. Now I should clear one thing to you that syllabus of Common Admission Test and PSU Exam quite different therefore you should prepare for one at the time.

Now to get Public Sector Undertaking jobs, it is recommended that you appear for GATE entrance exam. There are two reasons for this recommendation. In past couple of years, some PSU have made changes in their exam pattern and now instead of written exam, they ask for the GATE score. Secondly other PSU that do conducts written test allows candidates with good GATE score to skip the written test and directly appear for interview.

For PSU Jobs, you must meet the criteria below:

1. Only Indian citizens can apply.

2. B.Tech degree from a recognized university.

3. Minimum of 60 percent marks.

4. There should be no pending backlogs.

5. A valid GATE score which should not be older than 2 years.

6. Age limit is 21 to 30 years.

Upper Age Limit Relaxation

For OBC - 3 years.

For SC/ST - 5 years

dear friend,
if you want to know the details but my sugestion dont get into cat and psu both choose any option and try hard to get succeceded.gate is most for psus.as it covers both technical, maths, english concepts .cat is just an englsih based exam so considering its part in gate is of very less portion.it would be tough to make out of cat coachg .gate exam needs more determination and concentration to acheive it.
