Any language paper ( Literature )
Arabic,
Assamese,
Bengali,
Chinese,
English,
French,
German,
Gujarati,
Hindi,
Kannada,
Kashmiri,
Konkani,
Marathi,
Malayalam,
Manipuri,
Nepali,
Oriya,
Pali,
Persian,
Punjabi,
Russian,
Sanskrit,
Sindhi,

There are certain subject you cant take together.

Commerce and Management
Anthropology and Sociology
Maths and Statistics
Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science

Any two branches of engineering.

Combination of two literatures in the above list.

HI!
Optional Subject in Civil Services exam you can chose any subject.
It is not compulsory to chose the Subject.

Friend optional subject is chose when you qualify the Prelims exam.

In prelims exam you have to write General Studies and C.S.A.T.
No optional subject exam.

In Civil Services Mains you have to select any one optional subject.

You have to deal with Optional Subjects in Mains exam only and the preliminary exam is same for everyone with same subjects.

Without qualifying Preliminary you can not apply for Mains examination.


Preliminary Exam will have two objective type paper of General Studies and Aptitude Test.

There will be 2 Optional Subjects in Mains Examination:

Both Optional Papers will be of 250 marks each.

1st Optional Subject should be any one from below List:

Agriculture
Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
Anthropology
Botany
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Commerce and Accountancy
Economics
Electrical Engineering
Geography
Geology
History
Law
Management
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Medical Science
Philosophy
Physics
Political Science and International Relations
Psychology
Public Administration
Sociology
Statistics
Zoology

2nd Optional Subject should be Literature of any of the following languages:

Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, English

Yes you can choose ant two optional subjects regardless of your stream.......

In the main examination, you will have to opt for two subjects as your optional papers and depending upon your interest and expertise in specific fields, you may select any two optional subjects irrespective of the stream you followed in your bachelors degree program.
  • The Main Exam comprise of the following papers

Compulsory Subjects

English, Essay Writing, One Indian language and General studies


Optional Subjects

Agriculture Mathematics, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Mechanical Engineering Botany, Medical Science, Chemistry, Philosophy, Civil Engineering, Physics, Commerce,Political Science ,Economics ,Psychology, Electrical Engineering, Public Administration, Geography, Sociology, Geology, Statistics, Indian,History, Zoology,Law.
