To apply for Indian Administrative Service, you only have to complete graduation. There is no special course which you need to pursue. Any graduation course from recognized college is sufficient enough for Indian Administrative Service.

Which means you have apply for Bachelor of Arts, Commerce or Science. Whatever you find interesting that is also related to your subjects in 12th standard.

Once you have completed the graduation, no matter what marks you scored, it is possible to apply for the Indian Administrative Service.

To do so you will have to appear for the Civil Services Examination. It is one of the most difficult entrance exams in the world. More than 10 Lakh students appear for it every year while only few hundred seats are up for grabs.

You can understand how tough the competition it gets for Civil Services Examination. This exam is conducted on the yearly basis by the Union Public Service Commission.

IAS Eligibility

1. Candidate should have citizenship of India.

2. A Bachelor's degree from valid college.

3. Passing marks are enough to apply.

4. Age should be at least 21 years.

5. Upper age should not cross 30 years.

6. 3 years relaxation in upper age limit for OBC.

7. 5 years relaxation for SC and ST.

8. There are no physical requirements for IAS.

9. 4 attempts is given to General candidate to clear the exam.

10. OBC has 7 attempts to clear it.

11. No such limit for SC and ST.

Selection Procedure

1. Preliminary Exam

2. Main Exam

3. Interview

Selection of candidates to IAS is done on the basis of prelims, mains, and interview. Degree holders in any subject are eligible to participate the selection process. Pass mark in graduation is enough. Age of the applicant must be between 21 and 30 years. Concession in age is given for candidates belonging to reserved category.

Hello sravani,

you can opt any course based upon your interest. UPSC doesn't restrict you anywhere in your academics. You might get a doubt who is UPSC?, Well, UPSC is a central organization which conducts Civil Services Exam with which you can become IAS officer.

So after intermediate you can opt any course of your wish. See that it is a bachelors course, diploma course or professional course like ICAI, CS or any other foreign diploma may not work.
Let me list you some recommended courses for same viz. B.Sc (Zoology/physics/chemistry) assuming you to be a BiPC candidate else, B.Sc/B.Tech Electronics/Electrical/Physics or If you belong to Arts and commerce B.Com/BA/B.Arch or If you belong to life sciences Biotechnology/B.Pharmacy etc. No end actually. It should be a bachelors degree. There is no restriction upon subject. You are free to choose.

In any of the mentioned courses above or any other which you like to pursue, you don't need to worry about academic percentages. As UPSC don't keep barriers for any of the graduation students. But it will be good if you score some decent percentage. It will help you in the process of learning/preparation for your IAS exam.

And it will be an added advantage at the time of interview if you have good percentage. Don't get confused, IAS exam is a three level exam of which interview is the final stage of the recruitment. That is why I have said Interview. In interview they will assess you whether you are a suitable candidate to become civil servant or not.

Hope your clouds of doubts are cleared now. If not please put up a query again. We will try our best to guide you.
