For General candidates the number of attempts allowed is 4 times,for OBC 7 times and for SC/ST it is 9 times.Notification for IES 2010 has been released on 09.01.2010
Last date for reciept of forms is 08.02.2010
Written exam is on 04.06.2010 final year students from any engineering stream are allowed to appear for the IES exam..you should be within the age limit of 21-30 years for general,less than 33 years for OBC and less than 35 years for SC/STmaximum number of attempts for general is 4,for OBC is 7 and SC/ST can attempt till the time their age permits..

You are absolutely eligible for IES exam if you are a mechanical engineering student and you are in final year.

Here are the other informations that are also necessary for you if you want to appear in this examination :

* Your age must lie in between 21-30 years.

* You are allowed a maximum of 4 attempts to appear in this exam as a general category student , 7 for OBC students , 9 for SC/ST stdents.

This examination is conducted by UPSC (UNION PUBLIC SERVICE EXAMINATION).The minimum eligibility for this examination is the bachelor degree in engineering from a recognized college,.
a candidate must possess engineering degree in any of these streams hat I have mentioned below-

1.CIVIL ENGINEERING
2.MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
3.ELECTRICAL & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
4.ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING,.

The final year student of engineering can also apply for this exam.

the age limit for this examination is 21-30 years for the general candidates,.there are 5&3 years of relaxations are applicable for the SC\ST & OBC candidates.

No. of attempts-
4 for the general candidates,

no such restriction for the SC\ST candidates.

Dear pal,
UPSC conducts Engineering service exam for admitting the engineers . The posts for engineers is under the following fields
1. Mechanical engineering
2. Civil engineering
3. Electrical engineering
4. Electronics and telecommunication
graduates with bachelor engineering degree are eligible for the exam . Final year aspirants are also eligible for appearing.
Master graduate in radio physics, physics, wireless communication are also eligible for certain posts
The minimum age is 21 and the maximum age for appearing in the exam is 30 for general category and the relaxation is 3 years for obc and maximum of 5 years for sc and st category .
The general candidate can make a maximum of 4 attempts within the age limit, 7 for a obc category but there is no restriction for the number of attempts for sc and st category .
So you can apply for the exam

all mechanical engineers are eligible to apply in IES. Actually , I dont know why student say it IES , because IES means Indian Economical services instead of indian engineering services. However engineering exam is well known as Engineering Services Examination.
A mechanical engineering paper consists of :
Section 1-Objective Papers
General Ability Test
(Part A: General English) 2 hours 200
(Part B: General Studies)
Mechanical Engineering Paper I 2 hours 200
Mechanical Engineering Paper II 2 hours 200
Section 11-Conventional Papers
Mechanical Engineering Paper I 3 hours 200
Mechanical Engineering Paper II 3 hours 200

The completed offline application form must reach the Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, New Delhi-110069 on or before 2nd March, 2010.

yes for sure as you are the student of the mechanical engineering and you are in the final year of the graduation then you will definitely allowed to attempt this exam.

indian engineering services is the exam for graduates in the engineering branches like civil , mechanical , electrical ,electronics.

the age of the candidate appearing for this exam must be in between 21 to 30 years.
for obc it is 21 to 33 years and for the sc/st category candidates its 21 to 35 years.

general and obc category candidates can attempt this exam for 4 and 7 times respectively.
while there is no restriction on the number of attempts of the sc/st category candidates.

yes final year engineering students ar also eligible for the IES exam conducted by UPSC.
and mechanical engineering students are absolutely eligible.
Only 4 times a general candidate should atempt the test. where as Sc/ST it unlimited number of times.

the eligible four branch of engineering may appear in IES examination are

Category I—Civil Engineering.

there is no limitation in number of attempts for IES examination but there is upper and lower age limit.


to appear in IES examination candidate should have age between 21years to 30 years for general category candidate. there is reservation for SC/ST and other reserved category candidate in upper age limit.

IF YOU SATISFY WITH THE FOLLOWING ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS YOU CAN GO FOR IES

Eligibility conditions:

Nationality:

A candidate must be either
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the govt of India. A candidate who has appeared at an examination the passing of which would render him educationally qualified for this examination, but has not been informed of the result, may apply for admission to the examination. A candidate who intends to appear at such a qualifying examination may also apply. Such candidates will be admitted to the examination, if otherwise eligible, but their admission would be deemed to be provisional and subject to cancellation, if they do not produce proof of having passed the requisite qualifying examination along with the detailed application form which will be required to be submitted by the candidates who qualify on the result of written part of the examination

In exceptional cases, the commission may treat a candidate, who has not any of the qualifications prescribed in this rule, as educationally qualified provided that he/she has passed examinations conducted by other institutions the standard of which in the opinion of the commission justifies his/her admission to the examination

A candidate who is otherwise qualified but who has taken a degree from a foreign University which is not recognized by govt, may also apply to the commission and may be admitted to the examination at the discretion of the commission

According to eligibility criteria of IES exam you are eligible for IES exm. You can also apply in the final year of engineering. IES exam is conducted by UPSC in every year. For all other information please visit the given website :- http://www.upsc.gov.in

Hello...Yes you can appear for the exam since you are doing Mechanical engineering as the minimum criteria for this exam is that you need to have minimum of degree certificate from a recognized college under the following branch.
1.Mechanical engineering.
2.Electrical engineering
3.Electronics and telecommunication engineering.
4.Civil engineering.
You must attain minimum of 21-30 years of age.Its an entrance conducted by UPSC for the recruitment for the engineers in government sector therefore you can sit for the exam while you are in final year.

NO, you can't appear in IES exam in your final year.

you have to pass your b.tech. because at the time of filling exam form you have to attach the xerox copy of mark sheet of b.tech.

as you don't have this final mark sheet of b.tech. so can't appear for IES exam.

yes there is limitations of chance.

the general category students can appear for maximum 4 times.

the obc category students can appear for maximum 7 times.etc.

the eligibility criteria for it is:

1)you should be of 21 - 30 years as on 01.08.2010.
2)A degree in Engineering from a recognised University or eqivalent.
Candidates appearing at Engineering degree or equivalent examination also eligible to compete subject to certain conditions.

if an student apply for the ies exam but does not appear in the exam,then is the attempt considered or he still has the same attempts left?

Definately you are elgible to the exam of IES.
the qualification is any degree.
But remember that you must have 60% marks in the degree.
mechanical engineering students also applied in the last years.
that is also one of the degree.
so you may apply.
1.If you are belong to general category,you may write for four times only.
2.If you belong to OBC,you may write 7 times.
3.If you belong to SC/ST,you may write 9 times by reservations.

Aspirant should be 21 years of age and not more than 30 years. Follow the sites www.civilservicecoaching.com; http://www.threeauthors.com/upsc-exams/upsc-exams-booklists-ies-exam.asp. )A degree in Engineering from a recognised University or eqivalent. A final year student can appear subject to certain conditions.
Four attempts are allowed for general candidates,7 for OBC and nine for SC/ST.

this year you are not eligiable to attain the IES exam.

after finishing your engineering course,you will eligiable to attain IES exam.

as the minimum qualification graduation is require to attain the IES exam.

The allowed attempt for IES exam are

for general 4 attempt
for obc 7 attempt
for st/sc 10 attempt

Age limit
for general 30 years
for obc 34 years
for st/sc 40 years

you are eligible for taking IES exam...the exam is on 4th june...so prepare for it....
