Hi,

You heard it right from your seniors , that IT engineers are not eligible fro IES exam. It considers the other four streams of engineering but not IT or CS.

You can choose to do IES from other streams, but it will be difficult for you.

IES - Indian Engineering Services

This exam is conducted by UPSC and it is specifically for engineers.

Eligibility for IES Exam ~~

Candidate should hold a B. E. / B.Tech. degree in any of these engineering streams -

Mechanical engineering
Civil engineering
Electrical engineering
Electronics & telecommunication engineering

Final year candidate can also apply for this exam.

Age of the candidate should be between 21 years to 30 years.

So, you can see that your stream of engineering doesn't gets covered in IES exam, so you cannot apply for it.

2) graduate

It does not matter that your graduate background, it can be any field...but it must be graduate without any gap.

For your preparation Of UPSC apply for bangalore acadmey.....they are best in training..they trained you very well.

secondly use to read news paper and current affair.....mostly question come there specially logic and discussion questions.

Re: Can I be eligible for IES entrance exam being an IT student?

IES stands for Indian Engineering Service, the exam for which is conducted by UPSC every year to appoint young engineers in the Top technical post under various Central Govt. Depts after B.Tech. Degree.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final B.Tech. Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate, can apply for IES.

The candidate has to write IES in any one stream such as:-

Electrical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

Hence having a B.Tech. Degree, one is eligible to apply for IES but he or she has to write IES in any one of the stream mentioned above.

Re: Can I be eligible for IES entrance exam being an IT student?

Basically Indian Engineering Service is the entrance exam for which any engineering graduate can apply. However there is a catch. Indian Engineering Service is conducted only in 4 branches of B.Tech. These branches are:-

Mechanical

Electronics and Communications

Civil

Electrical

Since you do not belong to any of the 4 branches things could become difficult for you. To appear for Indian Engineering Service, you will have to choose one of the 4 branches mentioned above.

You will have to study the course of that particular engineering stream and apply for IES under it. This could be extremely difficult unless course of one of the stream is similar to the Information Technology branch of yours.

Therefore see for yourself whether you can prepare for the course of any of these 4 branches.

IES Eligibility

1. You should have Indian nationality to apply.

2. B.E/B.Tech degree from recognized college.

3. There is no criteria for marks.

4. As on January 1st of examination year, you should be at least 21 years old.

5. 30 years is the upper age limit.

6. There is 3 years relaxation for the OBC.

7. The relaxation is 5 years for SC/ST.

Hello,

I want to inform you that IES(Indian Engineering Services) exam take place only for four categories.

These are:
1) Civil engineering.
2) Mechanical engineering.
3) Electrical engineering.
4) Electronics and Telecommunications engineering.

The application for this exam requires degree in Engineering. It does not matter in which stream it is.

But the candidate having degree of engineering in any stream have to pass IES entrance exam in one of the four sreams given above.

So, this exam might not be beneficial for you.

You may look for GATE(Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) which helps in getting Prestigious jobs like in NTPC, HPCL, etc

Best of Luck for your Future.
