Re: WHICH IS BETTER B. Arch (Architecture) or B. Tech (Civil/ Mechanical engineering) ?

Is there any chance of switching to architecture after first sem in civil engineering? And is it a bad idea to shift now?

Re: WHICH IS BETTER B. Arch (Architecture) or B. Tech (Civil/ Mechanical engineering) ?

B.Arch starting salaries are very low 10k to 20k per month (after 5 years of struggle) as compared to CAs(40k to 60k) doctors(45k to 60k) Lawyer(25k to 50k), Software Engineers(35k to 50k).
Take up B.Arch only if you are too interested in sketching, painting you intend to start ur own firm, that way even if the pay is less you will have job satisfaction. But in todays world both job satisfaction and payscale go hand in hand, without good pay life will become sad.

Re: WHICH IS BETTER B. Arch (Architecture) or B. Tech (Civil/ Mechanical engineering) ?

hiiiiiiiii,
Considering that you are getting Arch in NIT and mech/Civil in private college i think Arch will be good for you.
- Placements of a government college is far much better then private college, also some government job demands a government degree. Studying in a private college will narrow your scope of placements.
-India being a developing country will always have a requirement for good architects, so it scope is quite nice within years to come.
-An average arch engg. can earn upto Rs 40-50 thousand a month but if you are good at it then you can earn even in lakhs.
-There are opportunities in both of the sectors.
-Job is not that secured in private sectors. If they found a better architect than you then you`ll be replaced. ( seen that )

Now answering your questions one by one
1) No doubt both will have great scope forever as construction work is evergreen as someone said that food, shelter and clothes are the most important
2)Earning will increase according to your experience. It can be lakhs a month.
3)You can get a govt jobs easily like you can get into PWD and other related departments

An Mtech in any of the above field will boost your career.

alllll the best

Re: WHICH IS BETTER B. Arch (Architecture) or B. Tech (Civil/ Mechanical engineering) ?

Civil engineers can be architect engineers but architecht engg cant be civil engg. I said this because civil engg are tought little bit of architechure in their course and if not then later they can do it seperately.

But its you choice whether which one to join. For architect aptitude is important. If you dont have aptitude in it then you will never be successful in it. You should be good at drawing and imagination skills etc

For civil engg your basic maths concepts should be good along with that you should be fast in calculations and also must have talent to deal with pressure.

So you can easily see what you have and so choose the desired.

Now answering your questions one by one

Re: WHICH IS BETTER B. Arch (Architecture) or B. Tech (Civil/ Mechanical engineering) ?

Mechanical engineering or Civil engineering and architecture are different fields that cannot be compared as such.
Architecture is more of creativity and engineering field is the application part of that creativity, so i think which one is better depends on your like and caliber and should be choosen accordingly. You should choose the course on your interest first.

Hi

As per my opinion B.tech is best i think so.

As a b.tech candidate can posses one or the other job.

B.tech graduates can have jobs in both private and govt sector.

Among them you have interest in Civil engineering which has bright future.

So better to go with the b.tech work hard.

Now coming to earning you will have same earning in both but in beginning you get less per annum.

All the best......

Re: WHICH IS BETTER B. Arch (Architecture) or B. Tech (Civil/ Mechanical engineering) ?

Dear friend,
In my thinking B.tech in civil/me engineering is best.Because these two stream have more demand in India or in abroad.ME and civil engineers never sit without any job they will definitely get a job if they have good marks and good knowledge about their department. In India there are lots of construction is going on so there is a good demand for civil engineers. And for me students best field is power and energy field. If they can get a job in those field they will get bright future and good salary and also good job security.

Good luck.
