To be an Indian Army Officer you have liberty for choosing the stream of your academics. But for Indian Navy and Indian Air force you have to be a science stream student throughout your academics.

Basically to become an Indian Army officer you have two opportunities one through NDA examination and other through CDS examination.

NDA stands for National Defense Academy and CDS stands for Combined Defense Services. Both NDA and CDS examinations are held by Union Public Service Commission twice every year for the recruitment in Indian Defense field.

--> For appearing in the NDA examination ( for Indian Army ) you need to have the qualifications given as below :-

* You must be an unmarried Indian male candidate with your age lying in between 16.5 years to 19 years.

* You must be physically and mentally fit as per the service requirement norm.

* You must have passed your 12th or must be in the final year of same with any discipline from a recognized board of education.

--> Also for appearing in the CDS examination ( for Indian Army ) you are required to have the qualifications as here under :-

* You must be an Indian resident with your age lying within 19 years to 24 years.

* You must hold the physical and mental fitness as per the service requirement norms.

* You must have completed your bachelor's degree course or pursuing the finl year of same with any stream of your choice from a recognized university.

Both the examinations are held in held in two stages which are known as Written examination and Service Selection Board interview respectively.

For further queries regarding the syllabus, question pattern, keydates for next examination and other necessary officer you can visit the official link of UPSC i.e; www.upsc.gov.in.

Re: Which field to choose in +1 to be an Army Officer?

Yes, you are eligible to join the Indian army as an officer after the 10+2 examination. As there is no entrance examination before the 10+2 for the recruitment as an officer.

To become an officer in the Defence services you have to qualify in the NDA examination conducted by the UPSC every year in the month of the April and the September. The examination is conducted in the two stages.

The required qualification to appear for the examination is candidates must have passed or appearing in the 102+ board with any discipline and the age between the 16.5-19 years are eligible.

So you can continue your course in any desired discipline to appear for the NDA examination and for the recruitment in the Indian Army as an officer.For more information visit at the www.upsc.gov.in.

Re: Which field to choose in +1 to be an Army Officer?

# Best way to join Indian Army as officer is cracking the National Defence Academy (NDA) Examination conducted twice in a year by UPSC.

# Note that candidate with any subjects or stream in 10+2 is considered eligible for NDA Examination.

# There is no any requirement of any specific stream or subjects or marks in qualifying examination. Only passing marks in qualifying marks in 10+2 are sufficient for NDA Examination.

# You can choose any subjects or stream in 11th standards as per your choice.

# Only the most important thing note that candidates have to qualify the written examination as their knowledge in basic concepts in subjects and general studies.

# Required educational qualification for NDA Examination:

* Must be 10+2 in any stream.
* Candidates appearing or awaiting their result are also eligible.
* No any fixation of any fixed required percentage marks in 12th standards. Only passing marks required.

# Required age limit for NDA Examination:

* Minimum age: 16.5 years
* Maximum age: 19 years

# Candidate must be citizen of India.

# It is mandatory that candidate must be compulsorily UNMARRIED MALE.

# Candidate have good moral character.

# Required physical parameters:

* Must not have any physical abnormality.
