Civil Engineering has lots of scope in public as well as private sector. Civil engineering candidates generally prefer to join government sector. For candidates of this discipline, there is ample discipline in public sector.

The first exam you must target is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, if you manage to secure a decent rank below 200 in your stream then there is fair chance that you will get call letter for interview from top PSUs like NTPC, ONGC, IOCL, BHEL, SAIL etc. You can apply for GATE 2017.

Indian Engineering Services examination is also one of the most suitable exams for engineering graduates of this suitable for high profile and decent salary job in government sector. You can apply for this exam also next year. You can apply for recruit drives in private companies like L&T, Gammon India etc.

Civil Engineering is the key to many of the issues affecting our lives today. Amongst all branches of engineering, the range and application of civil engineering is the broadest and the most visible. As a civil engineer, you will have to plan out, design and supervise the construction of different types of buildings.

To do B.E. or B.Tech in Civil Engineering you need to pass boards exam with physics , chemistry and mathematics with not less than 50% of marks in aggregate. The duration of this course is four years. The fee for this course in private colleges ranges from 1 to 2 lac, while in IIT's its around Rs. 15,000/- to Rs. 20,000/- per year.

The selection for this course is done through entrance examinations. You can sit for JEE, IIT, VITEEE, BITSAT and other such entrance exams to book for yourself a seat in one of the top engineering colleges in the country.

Job opportunities are available in the government as well as private sectors. Many enterprises like ONGC, BHEL, IOC, PWD, Electricity boards, Town Planning department, NHAI, Armed Forces, Indian Railways etc takes up civil engineers.

You can take up following job posts:-
  • Project Manager
  • Assistant Project Manager
  • Site Engineer
  • Civil Engineer
  • Assistant Civil Engineer
  • Purchase and Quality control Executive
  • Planning and Design Officer

Re: Scope of B.E. Civil Engineering in 2017

Civil engineering has nowadays become a boon for the students who want to work in government sector.
In 2016 itself, more than 1000 vacancies of Civil engineers have come till now and many more to come for different posts and designations.

With civil you don't need to worry about jobs.
The only thing you should be emphasizing on is the knowledge that you posses because for every exam you need to give a written test.
And though the competition is not that much huge but then it does not mean that it is negligible.

So, put your heart and soul in your B.E course and complete it with that much sufficient knowledge which is required to clear various exams.

Also, one tip that i would like to give you is that, prepare those subjects more efficiently which usually come in your competitive exams. The best source for this is to check the syllabus of GATE exam for Civil branch because 90% of the various exam's syllabus is more or less inspired from gate. Some parts may differ but you will get an overall idea of the subjects you need to have a strong hold on.
