Re: Are the Merchant Navy admissions on the basis of 10th standard?

hi dear,
Career in Merchant Navy can be pursued either as an officer or a rating in mainly two specialized fields, i.e. Marine Engineering and Nautical (deck).

Class X pass students or higher but from non-science background can join the Merchant Navy by enrolling for these Rating Courses:

i. 4 month Pre-Sea Course for General Purpose (GP) rating.
ii. 3 month Pre-Sea Course for Deck rating.
iii. 3 month Pre-Sea Course for Engine rating.
iv. 4 month Pre-Sea Course for Saloon rating.

There are four Government Training Institutes providing Pre-Sea and Post-Sea training of international standard :

i. Training Ship Chanakya, Navi Mumbai.
ii. Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Kolkata.
iii. Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai.
iv. Lal Bahadur Shastri College of advanced Maritime Studies and Research, Mumbai.
thanks

Students can pursue a career in Merchant Navy as an officer or a rating. To become a seafarer, a Pre-Sea course has to be taken up by applicant. This is available for all Indian citizens in different government and private institution. Students with minimum 60% of marks in P.C.M. at 10+2 level are only eligible to apply in this course. Commerce student cannot apply for this post.

Hi,

After 10th you can apply only for the GP Rating course in the Merchant Navy.
In 12th you need to have PCM in 11th and 12th.
You can join merchant navy as an officer if you have done engineering after 12th also.
