I.P.S stands for Indian Police Service and candidates have to appear and qualify for Civil Service examination conducted by UPSC for recruitment as I.P.S, I.A.S etc.

Yes, you are eligible to appear for examination after 12th from NIOS but have to complete the bachelor degree before appearing in examination.

The age limit to appear for examination is 21-32 years with relaxation in upper age limit for reserved category.

The examination is conducted in three stages and candidates have to qualify in all three stages of examination for final selection. For more information about examination visit at www.upsc.gov.in.

IPS refers to Indian Police Service and to be an IPS officer you need to qualify Civil Services examination which is held by UPSC once every year for recruitment of administrative officers like IPS, IAS, IFS, etc. .

--> The minimum eligibility criteria required for appearing in Civil Services examination are as here under :-

* You must have the nationality of India.

* Your age must lie within 21 years to 32 years if you belong to general category. Further age relaxation is applicable for reserved category candidates.

* You must have completed your bachelor degree course in any discipline from a recognized university.

Now as you are concerned about the validation of your higher secondary school degree with NIOS ( National Institute of Open Schooling ) board then I would like to let you know that NIOS is one of the three Central board of education of India and hence certificates provided by same are acceptable everywhere and for Civil Services examination too.

For more detailed information regarding same examination you can refer to the link www.upsc.gov.in.
