To be a SDM officer you have to complete your graduation from a recognized university. After completion of your graduation you have to appear in State PSC exam. First you have to give prelims exam. Only after qualifying in prelim exam you can give the main exam and after that you will be call for the personal interview. Thanks

Look if you are aspiring to become SDM or to be a part of Indian Bureaucratic System, then you need to know the recruitment process and entry points.

So, if you want to get into SDM at a short span of time, then you need to crack CSE conducted by UPSC and get into IAS cadre. To prepare for CSE, you need to know there are 3 steps such as Preliminary, Mains and Interview. Preliminary is generally based on MCQ where as Mains is based on descriptive questions. For the calculation of rank, marks obtained in both Mains and Interview will be combined and then the total marks will be declared and accordingly the rank, where as Preliminary marks will not be calculated, its just a qualifying stage, where you need to get the minimum cut off marks to get into the Mains and thereafter Interview.

Preliminary is generally of 2 papers containing 200 marks, where marks of the paper 1 will be considered for calculating minimum cut off and in the paper 2 you need to acquire the pass mark only. Paper 1 contains history, geography, polity, science, environment, current affairs where as Paper 2 contains logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, english and maths.

Mains contains 9 papers where 1 paper is on essay, 2 is on language which is qualifying, another 2 paper is on optional subject and rest 4 is on General studies all contains 200 marks but total marks will be 7x200= 1400.

In the last, comes the interview which is of 200 marks here by the rank will be declared out of 200+1400=1600

The 4 papers on General Studies deals with history, geography, economics, science, environment, ecology, disaster, ethics, current affairs.

The 1 paper on essay generally deals with current affairs and the 2 paper on language deals with grammars from English and Mother tongue language.

The 2 paper on optional depends on what subject you choose, UPSC has provided a wide list of subjects mention, as follows:

1.Agriculture
2.Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
3.Anthropology
4.Botany
5.Chemistry
6.Civil Engineering
7.Commerce and Accountancy
8.Economics
9.Electrical Engineering
10.Geography
11.Geology
12.History
13.Law
14.Management
15.Mathematics
16.Mechanical Engineering
17.Medical Science
18.Philosophy
19.Physics
20.Political Science and International Relations
21.Psychology
22.Public Administration
23.Sociology
24.Statistics
25.Zoology
26.Literature of any one following language: Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, English

Choose anyone from the above list which interest or you like the most.

Procedure to become SDM;

SDM stands for sub divisional magistrate and to become SDM you have to appear in the state level civil services exam. in state level Civil Services Exam the most preferred post is SDM as IAS is the most preferred post in Civil Services Exam conducted by UPSC.

Re: What do I study to become SDM?

>> Selection of Sub Divisional magistrate is done by qualifying state PSC exam and interview.
>> Preliminary exam is a latest trend which is of qualifying nature after which selected candidates need to qualify mains exams.
>> Mains exam is quite tough than prelims , after which merit list will be prepared for the interview schedule (if applicable)
>> Type of question and syllabus is mentioned in UPSC site and
vacancy advertisement.
