Re: Which optional subjects should Mechanical Engineering students choose?

Both the branches have good but the only thing that matters is your interest.
you just see to it that your interest is in which branch.
both the branches have good demand, placement and good salary packages also.

But, the also if you want to know any one out of these tw. i will recommend you to go for mechanical.

Best of luck

Dear friend yes you can choose any subject in which subject you are interested ......

but you must choose Mathematics in optional this is the best option for you if you choose mathematics then you can any other also but you read maths ........

That's why mathematics is too much good for optional..........

Re: Which optional subjects should Mechanical Engineering students choose?

I hope you already know what are the optional subjects present in IAS....

So always keep it in mind that the following combinations are not allowed:

*Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration ,
*Commerce and Management ,
*Anthropology and Sociology ,
*Maths and Statistics,
*Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science ,
*Management and Public Administration ,
*Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science ,
*Any two branches of engineering,
*Combination of two literatures.

So with subject as mechanical engineering, you can not choose other engineering subjects like civil and electrical.

The other subject which will be good for you are:
Physics or mathematics or statistics...

Remember, whatever background you have come from, it is not that you have to choose subjects from that background too.

You can choose subjects in which you have good knowledge, no matter whether it is your course subject or.

Be confident what you choose...

You should those subjects in which you can score good marks.

those subjects which you love to learn and have very much interest.

Re: Which optional subjects should Mechanical Engineering students choose?

hi frined
for the civil exams you have the list of following optional subjects
Mathematics
Animal Husbandry & Vetinary Science
Mechanical Engineering
Botany
Medical Science
Chemistry
Philosophy
Civil Engineering
Physics
Commerce
Political Science
Economics
Psychology
Electrical Engineering
Public Administration
Geography
Sociology
Geology
Statistics
Indian History
Zoology

so these are the subjects
and well according to my knowledge mechanical engineering is lots of concern with physics this means you would be quite good in this subject so i would suggest you to go for the subject in which you are perfect
all the best

Re: Which optional subjects should Mechanical Engineering students choose?

the list of optional subjects for civil service main examinations are-

Agriculture
Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
Anthropology
Botany
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Commerce and Accountancy
Economics
Electrical Engineering
Geography
Geology
History
Law
Management
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Medical Science
Philosophy
Physics
Political Science and International
Relations
Psychology
Public Administration
Sociology
Statistics
Zoology

as you are from B.Tech in mechanical engineering so obviously mechanical engineering is your first optional subject. so next you have to choose about the second optional subject from the rest.

as you have done engineering then obviously you have very good knowledge in physics and mathematics. so you may choose any one from physics and mathematics for second optional subject. if you are good in mathematics then it is better to choose mathematics. but you are not so much strong in mathematics then go for physics.

here i am attaching the notification for civil service examination 2011. go through the attachment you will get details about the syllabus and other details about civil service examination. visit UPSC website http://www.upsc.gov.in

best wishes.
