VMOU M.A. in English- English Language Usage and Communication Skills (MAEG-01) Papers are designed to test a student’s grasp of communication skills and understanding of the basic concepts of grammar and language. Questions can be asked on the meaning of terms like phrases, clauses, parts of speech, elements of a sentence and basic verb patterns. Phrases and clauses and the various kinds of the two can be asked to be demonstrated with examples. Questions can also be expected from the basic concepts of linguistics like morphemes, phonemes, morphology, the various differences between inflectional and derivative morphemes. The rules of agreement of verbs with their subjects are also an important aspect from which students can expect questions and the requisite examples. The paper is most likely to end with a passage for comprehension, from which specific questions will be asked.
