Dear Friend

As you query suggests that you have done your diploma in Mechanical engineering and now you want to pursue your bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering .Really it is a good think and initiative from your career point of view.

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering will really help you in getting good job opportunities as well as make your eligible for the various entrance examinations.

The minimum % of marks required in diploma in order to get admission in the Bachelor of technology is 60%.Relaxation of 5% in marks is provided to the reserved category.

This required % of marks will just make you eligible for the degree but you will have to give LEET exam that stands for the Lateral Entry Entrance test.

This exam is conducted in order to select candidates who want to do bachelor's degree after diploma.

After clearing this exam with good rank you will be able to get admission good government colleges of Tamil Nadu like :

1.Alagappa College of Technology

2.College of Engineering

3.Madras Institute of Technology

4.Periyar Government Institute of Technology.

5.Government engineering college ,Salem.

Hope the information helps you .If you have any more query you can leave your message here.

all the best

Default Re: After diploma in mechanical engineering how much percentage is required to join government college in Tamilnadu?

The diploma in Engineering holder is eligible for admisssion in the Bachelor of Technology course. The admission can be taken under the Lateral Entry Scheme which is only offered to the diploma holders.

This scheme is offered by both government and private colleges. However sadly Indian Institutes of Technology and National Institutes of Technology do not offer this scheme.

Rest of the government engineering colleges do offer this scheme. Under the lateral entry scheme the diploma holder is given admission in the second year of Engineering course.

The procedure to apply for lateral entry admission is different. There is no point appearing for the entrance exams such as:

ISEET

AIEEE

IIT-JEE

UPSEE

These entrance exams are not for lateral entry admission. There are other entrance exams including Lateral Entry Engineering Test. You can appear for LEET if scored 60 percent marks in the diploma course.

LEET is conducted by various states in the country however it is not the only entrance exam. There are several other entrance exams for lateral entry that are mainly limited to particular state.

Generally the requirement is 50 to 60 percent to appear for these entrance exams.

If you get more than 90% then you can join the top colleges in tamil nadu without giving the enterance else if you get less than 90% mays it is not so easy to get admission in top colleges as you need to provide donation then to the college as less than 90% students are more so
