I am doing MScIT from UGC & DEC recognized Distance Learning University .Can I apply for PHD entrance exams.? What is the minimum criteria required to apply for Ph.D course? Can someone please provide me the complete information on the same?

Yes, distance mode M.Sc degree is valid if you have done it from a recognized open university. Just make sure that you have got at least 55% marks in your degree. For reserved category there is relaxation of 5% marks.

You have to clear written exam and interview for getting admission in a PH.D programme. If you want to get admission in a reputed university then try to clear exams like NET/SET/JRF.

Yes, you are eligible to apply for Ph.D entrance exam after completing M.Sc from distance education.

Eligibility Criteria :
Candidate must have completed his Masters from any recognised university.
Candidate must have secured more than 55% marks in masters.
There is no age limit.

You have completed M.Sc in IT from UGC and DEC recognized university so you are eligible for Ph.D course but you should qualify in UGC NET exam.

NET stands for National Eligibility Test. This exam is conducted by UGC.

The educational qualification required for NET exam is masters degree from a recognized university with above 55% marks. 5% relaxation is given for SC/ST category candidates. Final year student are also eligible for NET exam.

There is no age criteria for NET exam but for JRF posts, your age should be below 28 years.

Marks distribution for each papers of NET exam:-

Section 1 - 100 marks(60 questions are there)
Section 2 - 100 marks(50 questions are there)
Section 3 - 150 marks(75 questions are there)

Yes, you are very much eligible to pursue Ph.D course after completion of your PG course from a recognized University.

However, you need to have scored a minimum of 55% in your PG course and should have a a NET/SET/JRF score card with you to be eligible for admission in Ph.D course.
