Any graduate, interested in joining Indian Army, can appear for Combined Defence Services Examination conducted by UPSC every year. Apart from being a graduate, you should be between the age limit of 19-24 years.
The examination comprises of three subjects
1.English
2.General Knowledge
3.Elementary Maths
Previous year question papers can be obtained from the official website of UPSC.

Sir,i am doing bca from sikkim manipal university.currently in 5th semister but i do not have maths at 10 2 level can i am eligble for defence services exams.

can a bca student join army and if she is a girl

There is an exam called CDS (combined defense service) conducted by UPSC.
The eligibility criteria:
education - graduate from any stream or equivalent.
age - 19-24 years.
So prepare well, you can surely get through this exam.

Hello friend,

Yes, you are eligible to join defense after completing your BCA. But you are eligible for Indian Army not for Indian air force if you don't take maths.
So, write CDS (Combined defense service) exam conducted by UPSC.
You can join Indian Army by clearing this exam, followed by SSB interview.

A BCA student can join Indian Army.
Since you are a graduate and a girl can join through short service commission.
you can write CDS (Combined defense service) exam to join Indian Army.

Hello Himansu,

First complete your BE degree. When you complete your degree, you are eligible to write CDS exam conducted by UPSC.
Once you join Indian Army through this exam, then you will join as an lieutanant (officer rank)

Hi...Its a good profession that you have thought of taking after the completion of your BCA.Indian army is also not a bad profession instead you are serving the country well.You can appear for CDS exam as the minimum criteria is as follows to appear this exam.
1. For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy-Degree of a recognised University or equivalent.

2. For Indian Naval Academy : Degree in Engineering.

3. For Air Force Academy : Degree of Recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.

Graduates with first choice as Army / Navy / Air Force are to submit proof of graduation provisional certificates on the date of commencement of the SSB Interview at the SSB.

Candidates who are studying in the final year Degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply but they will be required to submit proof of passing the degree examination to reach the Army HQ/Rtg.

CDS exams are conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission).

ELIGIBILITY FOR CDS EXAM: -

1. Pass graduation in any subject or in any engineering stream from a regonised institute / university.

2. Age - 21 Years to 30 Years for General candidates, 21 Years to 33 Years
for OBC candidates and 21 Years to 35 Years for SC / ST candidates.

3. Physical Eligibility - A candidate should be physically and mentally fit.

- Eye Sight = 6/6,
- Height = 167 cms,
- Weight: 50 Kg
- Chest: 77 cm (Normal) / 82 cm (Expanding)

I am doing the final year of bca in gujarat university . I want to join army . I have been passed the s.y with 72% . My quation is that i can pass the exam for army officer . I do not have confidence that i will pass this exam or not . But phisically i ready .

You want to serve the nation, which is really appreciable.The way in the INDIAN army is not the easy one.
After graduation, there is a examination to clear to make a way in the Indian army for the aspirants.
This examination is known as CDSE [COMBINED DEFENSE SERVICE EXAMINATION],conducted by the union public service commission [UPSC ] every year.
Through this examination ,one can apply in all the combatant branches(navy,air force & military branch) of the Indian army for their officers ranks posts.

For appear in this examination, you must have atleast a graduation from a recognized college.For apply in naval & air force , you must have Physic & maths as the passing subjects in the graduation.

Eligibility for Indian Army :-

1) 10+2 (Through NDA)

You have to take an entry level exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to join NDA (National Defence Academy).
Eligibility for UPSC exam :-
a) Sex :- Male.
b) Age Limit :- Between 16 1/2 and 19.

Application Forms are published in leading
newspapers during March /April.

The UPSC (NDA) exam is conducted twice a year (April and October)in all major cities throughout India.

Each year course start twice January and July.

UPSC (NDA) Syllabus is based on CBSE syllabus.

After clearing the written exam you have to go through a five-day interview process with the State Selection Board (SSB) which is the final step .

On completion of the NDA course, you are sent to the respective service academies for your pre- commission training.


2) Engineering Graduates (Direct Entry)

Engineering graduate can join the Indian Military Academy directly.

So, you only need to attend the Service Selection Board (SSB) interview.

Eligibility :-
Age Limit :- Between 20-27 years at the time of joining.

The course starts every year in the month of January and July.
Advertisement of the application form published in March/April & Oct./Nov in employment newspaper.

sir i am study in s.y.bcs, how to join army?

After BCA(Bachelor of Computer Application), Indian Army can be joined through CDS(Combined Defence Service) entrance exam conducted by UPSC twice every year.

The eligible candidate aspiring to join Indian Army of CDS, must be an unmarried Indian male having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 19 to 24 years with good Physical and Mental Fitness.

The selection is through written exam followed by personal Interview along with Physical Fitness and Medical Test.

The CDS can be applied on line by paying requisite fee for the exam.

For this you have to qualify the Combined Defence Services.

C.D.S exam is conducted by U.P.SC twice in a year.

Eligibility criteria:-
> Pass gradation with any stream with recognized university
