Courses And Training:

Initially one obtains a student pilot license (SPL) from a government sponsored flying club in the country. The minimum eligibility sponsored for the SPL is matriculation examination and age should be above 16 years. An oral examination has to be taken in subjects related to aviation.

Before being permitted to start flying, one must acquire a private pilot license (PPL). Flying includes overall 60 hours of flying with cross-country and solo flying. In additional individuals have to pass theoretical examinations in subjects.
A commercial pilot license (CPL) can be obtained only after acquiring a PPL. Flying clubs are equipped to provide a practical complement of the training for the CPL, which includes a further 190 hours of flying experience.


Student Pilot License (SPL)
This is an examination conducted by flying clubs in every State and covers papers in Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation Air Technical. It is a theory exam.


Eligibility : Age of 16 years minimum and pass in class X. A medical certificate of fitness, security clearance and a bank guarantee of Rs.10,000 is required.
Selection : Candidates taking the SPL test have to appear in an oral examination on a fixed day every month, candidates go through a medical test. Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), Subroto Park,New Delhi and Institute of Aviation Medicine(IAM), Vimanpura Bangalore, are the final authorities for medical fitness. After medical clearance the candidate gets the SPL. Candidates are also required to pass the Pilot Aptitude Test.

Private pilot license (PPL)
After getting the SPL the candidate accompanied by the flying instructor proceeds for initial flying training. This is a dual flight, where the instructor or trainer accompanies the learner to teach him the practical aspect of flying. Then the candidate gets his first independent flight normally after about 15 Hour of dual flying . This includes cross country flying. A total of 60 Hours of flying is needed of which 20 hour minimum should be solo and 5 hours cross country. Theory Exam-There is a theory examination also, the subjects are: Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation, Aircraft Engines, Seamanship.


Eligibility : 10+2 and medical fitness certificate from AFCME OR IAM. The age requirement is 17 Years.
Fees : Flying training is costly. Fees has increase over the years. Approximately Rs. 1000 are charged per hour for flying. Some States do subsidized the rates for the residents of the states. This fees may be revised from time to time.

Commercial pilot license (CPL)
A student can get the CPL by doing his flying training for 129 hours to complete 250 Hour of flying. Training facilities are available with Flying Clubs in India, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy, Raibarelly, UP, Private Academies or Flying School in USA or Europe, Australia, Gulf,etc. Education eligibility : XII(physics and Maths), Non-Science students who started flying before jan1,1994 were eligible for 1996 admission. Current PPL Licence needed with flying experience in the last 3 year.


Eligibility : 18 years to 30 years.
Medical fitness : As granted by AFCME, New Delhi/IAM, Bangalore.
Written Exam : A written exam in the following subjects is needed for getting the CPL: Air Regulations, aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation, Technical, Planning. These exams are conducted 6 times a year. Actual flying experience required - 250 hours of total flying time(150 hours of solo, 25 hours of cross country, 10 hours of instrument flying , 5 hours of night flying).
CPL licence and training as a particular aircraft leads to a co-pilot assignment. Promotion depends as flying experience and vacancies. Co-pilots must have the required numbers of flying hours and licence. A pilot undergoes a never process of training. Proficiency tests have to be cleared almost thrice a year or more depending on the licence category and age of the pilot. The highest among the category of licences is the Air Transport Pilot Licence(ATPL) which allows the pilot to fly any type of aircraft. Licence has to be constantly renewed through passing medical and other tests every six months.

is it compulsory to study physics. i am 19 right now doing B.Com, i have done maths till 12th but not physics. i have studied physics only till 10th.

Commercial Pilot is getting one of the highest salary in India, Fresh pilot salary is around Rs 1.5 Lakh per moth for domestic airlines. Salary moves up rapidly with year of experience and on the international route. Experienced pilot on international route can get 5-6 lakh Rupees per month as salary.

Don’t confuse with the job of pilot of Indian air Force. IAF pilot is selected through NDA exam, training is free!!!!!

To become a commercial pilot following is the eligibility criteria:

1. You need to complete 10+2 with 50% marks in Physics and Maths.

2. The first step in Pilot training is acquiring of Student Pilot Licence (SPL).

3. After acquiring SPL you need to start flight training to get Private Pilot Licence (PPL)

To become a commercial pilot-


The basic prerequisites -

i. You must complete your Class XII under the 10+2 system or its equivalent with a minimum of 50 per cent marks in Mathematics and Physics.

ii. You must be minimum 16 years of age to be eligible for a Private Pilot License and 17 for a Commercial Pilot License.

iii. Your vision in one eye must be perfect. In general medical terminology, it is called 6/6 eyesight. In the other eye, you could have an imperfection of 6/9, which must be correctable to 6/6.

iv. General physical fitness is mandatory. You must be free of any disease that can hamper normal function.


The route to being a commercial pilot-

First, zero in on a good flying club.
Then you begin the stepwise training process.


~ Student Pilot License-

i. You must appear for a written theory examination in Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology and Air Navigation and Air Technical.

ii. You must obtain a medical certificate of fitness from doctors designated by the Director General of Civil Aviation. Only two bodies in India [ Images ] -- Air Force Central Medical Establishment in New Delhi [ Images ] and the Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bangalore -- are authorised to give you a medical fitness certificate.

iii. You have to get a security clearance.

iv. You will need to appear for an oral examination and an aptitude test.

v. If the medical clearance comes through and you clear the exams, you will be granted the SPL.

Damages: You must furnish a bank guarantee of Rs 10,000.



~ Private Pilot Licence-

i. Post attaining the SPL, you will be assigned an instructor to start flying lessons. You will be taught the basics of flying and your instructor will accompany you on flights.

ii. After about 15 hours of flying with an instructor, ie dual flying, you can fly solo and go cross-country as well.

iii. To obtain a Private Pilot License, you have to fly a minimum of 60 hours. Of this, at least 20 hours should be solo flying and 5 hours should be cross-country flights.

iv. You will also need to appear for the written theory examinations in subjects like Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation, Aircraft Engines and Seamanship.

v. You will need to obtain the medical fitness certificate from the AFCME or IAM.

vi. You must be at least 17 years old.

viii. You must have passed Class XII or equivalent exam with Physics, Maths and Chemistry as your subjects.

Damages: The per hour cost of flying is quite steep: about Rs 3,500.

To get a PPL, you need at least 60 hours of flying. Thus the total cost of obtaining a PPL will be a cool Rs 2 lakh (Rs 200,000)!




~ Commercial Pilot License-

This license is the most important license to become a commercial pilot.

i. The age bracket for getting a CPL is between 18 years and 30 years.

ii. You need a minimum of 250 hours of flying to get this license. Of this, 150 hours have to be solo flying, 25 hours of cross-country flying, 10 hours of instrument flying (which means you rely only on the plane's instruments for flying without looking at the horizon or external assistance), and 5 hours of flying in the night.

iii. A medical certificate from ACFME or IAM and theory tests in Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation, Technical and Planning are other important parts of the process.

iv. You can get the Private Helicopter License if you complete 40 hours of flight training with 15 hours of solo flying. Written exams on basic aviation subjects have to be taken.

v. To get a Commercial Helicopter Pilot License, you need 60 hours of flight training as well as appear for a written exam.

vi. Helicopter pilots are hired by public and private sector corporates as well as security agencies.

Damages: A steep Rs 9 lakh (Rs 900,000). For a Commercial Helicopter Pilot License, the cost could go up to Rs 13 lakh (Rs 1.3 million)!




~ Airline Transport Pilot's License-

The above mentioned licenses can only allow you to fly as a co-pilot. If you want to take over as captain, you need the Airline Transport Pilot's License, which is the highest aviation license available.

Along with clearing written papers, you also need to clock a total of 1,500 flying hours and take medical tests.

Damages: It costs Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 per hour. Often, the airline you work for may sponsor the training costs.




Additional training and information-
Once you get the CPL, you may want to go in for multi engine training.

After seven to 10 hours of multi engine training on a certain aircraft, your license will carry an endorsement of the aircraft you have flown.

All the above licenses need to be renewed regularly. You must adhere strictly to medical tests.

Fly one hour after your license expires, and you will be banned from flying ever again!

Medical conditions and regular exam clearances notwithstanding, a pilot can continue in this career till 61 years.

Hi,

I'm want to become a commercial pilot. After reading replies above, i guess the odds are pretty strong against me. Firstly I'm already 30yr old. Secondly, Im a commerce graduate (and a Chartered Accountant).
I want to know, if I can still get a commercial pilot licence if I'm ready to slog? I mean the 30 yrs age window (I cant change my age) but Im ready to do private 12th to get physics under my wing of education. Currently Im a housewife, due to some personal reasons I had to give up my old dream of becoming a commercial pilot, but now with my husbands backing I can see the light, I want to know if its already too late for me? Pls guide me.

Even after becoming commercial pilot, they need regular medical check up, any problem in health can cause cancellation of the license of the pilot.

Courses And Training:

Initially one obtains a student pilot license (SPL) from a government sponsored flying club in the country. The minimum eligibility sponsored for the SPL is matriculation examination and age should be above 16 years. An oral examination has to be taken in subjects related to aviation.

Before being permitted to start flying, one must acquire a private pilot license (PPL). Flying includes overall 60 hours of flying with cross-country and solo flying. In additional individuals have to pass theoretical examinations in subjects.
A commercial pilot license (CPL) can be obtained only after acquiring a PPL. Flying clubs are equipped to provide a practical complement of the training for the CPL, which includes a further 190 hours of flying experience.


Student Pilot License (SPL)
This is an examination conducted by flying clubs in every State and covers papers in Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation Air Technical. It is a theory exam.


Eligibility : Age of 16 years minimum and pass in class X. A medical certificate of fitness, security clearance and a bank guarantee of Rs.10,000 is required.
Selection : Candidates taking the SPL test have to appear in an oral examination on a fixed day every month, candidates go through a medical test. Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), Subroto Park,New Delhi and Institute of Aviation Medicine(IAM), Vimanpura Bangalore, are the final authorities for medical fitness. After medical clearance the candidate gets the SPL. Candidates are also required to pass the Pilot Aptitude Test.

Private pilot license (PPL)
After getting the SPL the candidate accompanied by the flying instructor proceeds for initial flying training. This is a dual flight, where the instructor or trainer accompanies the learner to teach him the practical aspect of flying. Then the candidate gets his first independent flight normally after about 15 Hour of dual flying . This includes cross country flying. A total of 60 Hours of flying is needed of which 20 hour minimum should be solo and 5 hours cross country. Theory Exam-There is a theory examination also, the subjects are: Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation, Aircraft Engines, Seamanship.


Eligibility : 10+2 and medical fitness certificate from AFCME OR IAM. The age requirement is 17 Years.
Fees : Flying training is costly. Fees has increase over the years. Approximately Rs. 1000 are charged per hour for flying. Some States do subsidized the rates for the residents of the states. This fees may be revised from time to time.

Commercial pilot license (CPL)
A student can get the CPL by doing his flying training for 129 hours to complete 250 Hour of flying. Training facilities are available with Flying Clubs in India, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy, Raibarelly, UP, Private Academies or Flying School in USA or Europe, Australia, Gulf,etc. Education eligibility : XII(physics and Maths), Non-Science students who started flying before jan1,1994 were eligible for 1996 admission. Current PPL Licence needed with flying experience in the last 3 year.


Eligibility : 18 years to 30 years.
Medical fitness : As granted by AFCME, New Delhi/IAM, Bangalore.
Written Exam : A written exam in the following subjects is needed for getting the CPL: Air Regulations, aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation, Technical, Planning. These exams are conducted 6 times a year. Actual flying experience required - 250 hours of total flying time(150 hours of solo, 25 hours of cross country, 10 hours of instrument flying , 5 hours of night flying).
CPL licence and training as a particular aircraft leads to a co-pilot assignment. Promotion depends as flying experience and vacancies. Co-pilots must have the required numbers of flying hours and licence. A pilot undergoes a never process of training. Proficiency tests have to be cleared almost thrice a year or more depending on the licence category and age of the pilot. The highest among the category of licences is the Air Transport Pilot Licence(ATPL) which allows the pilot to fly any type of aircraft. Licence has to be constantly renewed through passing medical and other tests every six months.

To become a pilot, you need to join Air flying schools after completion of 10+2, they should pass the 10+2 exam with physic, chemistry, math. Minimum marks should be 50%.
You need to clear the entrance test exam of the flying schools in India, they also need to clear the physical fitness (Which is tough one). Only totally fit person can get opportunity to get admission in flying schools.
You should have passed 10+2 with at least 50% marks in math and physics. Studying maths and physics is mandatory. You have to be a minimum of 18 years of age on the date the license is issued.

once you have your CPL ,you can then work as a trainee co-pilot for six to eight months with any airlines and thereafter as co-pilot.
Indians also can get trained in abroad and obtain a foreign commercial pilot license. In that case, you have to convert it into an Indian license from the DGCA by clearing flying checks and exams in two subjects held by the DGCA.

There are generally three branches and for these three branches there are three different eligible criteria.The three department are :

1. Flying Branch,
2. Technical Branch,
