Hai,

It is good that you have decided your goal at quite early stage of your academics
but its really good to have your goals decided at this age.

The early you start preparing for it, the easily you will get through.

The Indian Administration Services (I.A.S.) is a central government service in which
appointment is done through Indian Civil Services Examination which is conducted
by UPSC once in a year generally.

The Civil Services Examination is basically conducted in two stages.

1. Preliminary Examination
The first stage is Preliminary Examination which is also called
Civil Services Aptitude Test. This test is common for all the applicants.
The question are asked from
General studies (History, Geography,Politics, Economics and social development, General Science)
English
and Mathematical Aptitude.

2. Main Exam and Interview
After qualifying Preliminary exam you can appear Main exam.
On the basis of marks in Main exam, candidates are shortlisted for Interview.

The Main examination contains total 9 papers as mentioned below.
Paper-I. Indian Language Qualifying Paper (300 marks)
Paper-II. English Qualifying Paper (300 marks)
Paper-III. General Essay type paper (200 marks)
Paper-IV. General Studies (Paper-I & II 300 marks each)
Paper-V. Optional subject-I (Paper-I & II 300 marks each)
Paper-VI. Optional subject-II (Paper-I&II 300 marks each)

You will have to choose any two subjects from the following list of subjects.

1. Agriculture
2. Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
3. Anthropology
4. Botany
5. Chemistry
6. Civil Engineering
7. Commerce and Accountancy
8. Economics
9. Electrical Engineering
10. Geography
11. Geology
12. History
13. Law
14. Management
15. Mathematics
16. Mechanical Engineering
17. Medical Science
18. Philosophy
19. Physics
20. Political Science and International Relations
21. Psychology
22. Public Administration
23. Sociology
24. Statistics
25. Zoology

While selecting the two optional subjects, you have to avoid following combination
of subjects because these combinations are not allowed.

- Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration;
- Commerce & Accountancy and Management;
- Anthropology and Sociology;
- Mathematics and Statistics;
- Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science.
- Management and Public Administration;
- Any two engineering subjects
- Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science.

You can download the syllabus of all the papers from http://www.upsc.gov.in/

Starting your preparation

As you have just finished 10th so it would not be very difficult for you to read
thoroughly NCERT books from Std.VI to Std.X all science and social science subjects.
You should read them slowly so that you can memorize each and everything for long.
You can give your half to one hour daily for this purpose.
Make a good habit of reading newspapers like The Hindu and The Economic Times.
While reading newspapers, try not to leave even a single important article.
You should talk about the things which you read in newspapers
If you like reading novels then its good if you don't, then start liking some novels at least.
Reading newspapers and novels help a lot improving writing skills.
In course of time you will yourself come to know what more you gotta do.
