Dear prachi,
Every student who wants to make his/her career in fashion technology want to take admission in NIFT but only few students are selected in it. In year 2012

About NIFT: National Institute of fashion technology is a fashion institute of India. It was
set up in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, India. Now it has been granted
under the act of parliament 2006.

There are 14 NIFTs which had centers at Mumbai, Kolkata, Kangra, Patna,
Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Raebareli, Shillong, Bhopal,
Taliparamba, Bhubaneswar and Jodhpur where it offers four-year bachelor
and two-year master programmes in the areas of Design, Management and
Technology. NIFT entrance exam is conducted by NIFT New DELHI.

Eligibility for bachelor design course:The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of
examination of any recognized Central/State Board
of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of
Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for
Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
or
A candidate has a three/four year diploma
recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical
education.

NIFT Exam Pattern: For undergraduate programme NIFT exam is held in following stages.
GAT(General Ability Test), CAT(Common Ability Test) and Section
Test.

a) General Ability Test: This test contains following sections:
1) Quantitative Ability: This section test your mathematical ability on Addition,
Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest,
Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, Distance, Profit & Loss,
Algebra and Geometry etc.

2)Communication Ability: This section tests your language and communication ability.

3)Analytical and Logical Ability : It test's the candidates logical reasoning and creativity
of candidate's thinking.

4)General Knowledge and Current Affairs : This section test your's general Knowledge
about your country's history, geography,
politics and about current affairs.

B) Creative Ability Test: This section test's candidate's judge the skill, power of
observation, innovation and design ability of the candidate.
An important aspect of the test is the candidate’s usage of
color and illustration.

C) Situation Test: Short listed candidates from the entrance examination are required to
undergo a situation Test for B.Des programme. This test evaluate the
candidate’s Skills for materials handing and innovative ability on a
given situation with a given set of materials.

The weightage assigned to each test in the final merit list of the entrance examination will be as under :

PROGRAMME TEST WEIGHTAGE
DESIGN (UG) GAT-UG 40%

CAT-UG 40%

SITUATION TEST 20%

Study Material or Books: You may refereed the following books:

1) NIFI/IIFT/NID Admission test by Surender Kavimadan.(RPH Publisher)
2)Study package for NIFT/NID/IIFT entrance exam by Dharmender Mittal(ARihant Publisher)
3)NIFT entrance exam by Verma PUblisher(Asian Books)

I suggest you to prepare it by self study behalf of joining other coaching centre.
For improving your G.K and English also read the English News paper.
Also do previous 5 years question paper
