VMU stands for the Vinayaka Mission University. It is a higher education based institution in Salem, Tamil Nadu. In the year 2001, it got the university status by Ministry of Human Resource Department, Government of India.

The university has affiliations from:

1. University Grants Commission.

2. Distance Education council.

3. Technical courses are approved by AICTE.
