Duration of Medical Courses in India

Hello dear
There are various courses in India that one can pursue to finish their Medical Study. Of Course each course has its own eligibility criteria though!

The Duration of each course however is Listed below:
  • M.B.B.S (Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor ofSurgery): 4.5 Years
  • B.D.S (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) : 4 Years
  • BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery) : 5.5 Years
  • M.D (Doctor of Medicine) : 3 Years
  • M.S (Master of Surgery) : 3 Years
  • B.Pharm (Bachelor of Pharmacy) : 4 Years
Usually people opt for MBBS and since, these days there is not much scope for M.B.B.S Grads, they take a Step further and do M.S or M.D and then either join some Hospitals across the country or end up opening their own clinic!

The M.B.B.S course though, is divided into 3 phases and the third phase consists of two parts. Then, the student is recommended to work one full year in the hospital (attached to the college) as a part of what they call is "Rotating Internship!" and is also a given a Stipend every Month.

Only after Completing this Internship (i.e., 5.5 years of Duration), one can obtain the M.B.B.S degree and go ahead for further studies (for Example a Master's Degree).
So.. Hope that helps!

Regards,

Nik!
