Bachelor of Physical Education is a UG level course awarded in the field of physical education, which is a training or course for the development or care for human body. In some colleges, this course is shortly called as B.P.E, while it is called as B.P. Ed in some colleges.

This course and any other course in the field of physical education are governed by the All India Council for Physical Education. A Number of private and a few government colleges are offering Bachelor of Physical Education course in India and the list of Government colleges offering this course is given below:

Eligibility for B.P. Ed/B.P.E:

For seeking admission to the Bachelor of Physical Education course offered by different government colleges, candidates must have completed their higher secondary in any stream from a recognized board of education. The age requirement is that candidates must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission to the course.

Admission Test:

Most of the colleges conduct admission test for candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor of Physical Education course, which includes playing ability test, academic test and physical fitness test. Normally, the physical fitness test might include running, jumping, shuttle run, flexed-leg sit-ups, flexed-arm hang for girls and pull-ups for boys. Academic test is a test to judge the English and general knowledge of the students. In the other test, candidates will have the option to select any of the games of their interest to show their ability in that game.

What is the duration of Bachelor of Physical Education course?

Bachelor of Physical education course is conducted either as a 3-4 year course or as a one-year course. The aforesaid education and eligibility are applicable to the 3-4 year course, while for the one-year course, candidates must have secured not less than 50% of marks in their UG degree course with experience in sports participation. Candidates must have participated in any of the sports in the last three years from the year of admission to the one-year Bachelor of Physical Education course.

Higher Education after Bachelor of Physical Education:

Candidates who have completed their Bachelor of Physical Education can go for Master of Physical education course offered by different colleges and universities in India or they can also do their Post Graduate Diploma in Health and Fitness Management.

Job prospects after Bachelor of Physical Education:

The degree of Bachelor of Physical Education enables a student to get employment opportunities not only in private sector organizations, but also in public sector organizations mainly through their sports quota since they would have participated in some national level games. Many government organizations recruit candidates with meritorious sports qualification directly to Group C and D positions and even banks recruit candidates with sports qualification. They can also find job placement in schools as physical training teachers or they can become sports journalists as well.
