Haematology is also spelled as Hematology and it is branch of physiology, pediatrics, clinical laboratory work, internal medicine and pathology that is concerned with the study of blood and diseases in blood and blood forming organs. It includes the study of prognosis, treatment, diagnosis and prevention of blood diseases. The department is also involved in research activities that include research work on ITP, Leukemia, aplastic anemia, thrombophilia, hemophilia, thalassemia, etc…

The department offers Doctorate of Medicine course in Clinical Hematology for candidates with MD in Medicine or Pediatrics and Doctorate of Medicine course in Hematology for residents with MD in Pathology. The department also offers Ph. D course in Haematology for candidate with Molecular biology qualification.

About Ph. D in Haematology course:

Ph. D in Haematology course offered by the Department of Haematology begins once a candidates registers himself/herself with the AIIMS and ends with the submission of theses by the candidate. It is essential that candidates must submit their theses within a maximum period of five years.

Eligibility for seeking admission to Ph. D Course in Haematology:

For applying to the Ph. D in Haematology course candidates must fulfill the following eligibility conditions:

They must have completed their MBBS course at the UG level

After completion of their MBBS course, they must have done their PG course in molecular biology

Admission to Ph. D in Haematology:

Like other Ph. D courses offered by All India Institute of Medical Sciences, admission of students to the Ph. D in Haematology is also done based on the merit secured by candidates in the Ph. D Entrance Examination conducted by the AIIMS. This entrance examination is conducted for the purpose of assessing the eligibility of candidates in taking up Ph. D course in appropriate subjects.
