Hooghly District is one of the districts in the state of West Bengal, which is also spelled as Hugli or Hoogli. The district got its name as an honor to the Hooghly river and the headquarters of this district is Chinsura. The district has four sub-divisions namely Arambag, Serampore, Chandannagar and Chinsura Sadar. As far as education in this district is concerned, there are 6 technical institutes, 22 colleges, 127 higher secondary schools, 408 high schools and nearly 3000 primary schools. Arts, Science & Commerce College:

Chandemagore Government College came into existence as early as 1891 and the college is recognized under Section 2(f) and 12 (B) of the University Grants Commission Act. The college offers UG and PG courses under general and under honors scheme and the list of courses offered by the institute is as follows:

Government College of Engineering & Textile Technology, Serampore came into existence in the year 1908 in the name of College of Textile Technology. The institute presently offers B. Tech in computer science & engineering, information technology, Bachelor’s degree in textile technology and PG degree in Mechanical Processing of textiles.
