Lohit is an administrative district in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh and the district has the city of Tezu as its headquarters. According to a survey conducted in the year 2011, it is the third most populous district in the state of Arunachal Pradesh out of the 16 other districts functioning under the control of the state after the districts of Papum Pare and Changlang. On the North side of the district there are the Dibang Valley District of the state of Arunachal Pradesh and the country of China. In the south side, it has the district of Changlang of Arunachal Pradesh and in the eastern side, it is surrounded by China and Burma and in the western side, Lohit District is surrounded by the state of Assam.

When it comes to education in the district of Lohit, it has a literacy rate of 56.05% and there are 125 primary schools, 27 middle schools, 14 high schools and a college in the district according to the official website of the district. Indira Gandhi Government College is the third largest college in the state of Arunachal Pradesh and the college came into existence to mark the occasion of the birthday of the father of the nation on the 2nd of October 1986. The college meets the educational requirements of the six districts of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The college is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University, which is a central university operating from Arunachal Pradesh and it is also recognized by the UGC. The college offers honors and pass courses in arts stream with subjects like:

Economics

Geography

Hindi

History

Political sciences

In addition, Bachelor of Commerce (Pass and honors) course is also offered by the college with subjects pertaining to management groups. Apart from these regular courses, the college is also offering a number of certificate courses under the category of self-financing courses. For applying to the first year of the B.A. course offered by the college, candidates must have completed their higher secondary examination from the Board of Higher Education of Arunachal Pradesh with five papers inclusive of English as a compulsory subject. As far as Bachelor of Commerce course is concerned, candidates should fulfill the same educational condition as is applicable to Bachelor of Arts course along with 40% of aggregate marks is essential. For getting into the second and final year of these courses, candidates must complete the previous year of the course.
