The Papum Pare District is the capital district of the state of Arunachal Pradesh and the district is located in the north-eastern part of the nation. The headquarters of the district is the city of Yupia, which is located at a distance of about 20 kms from the city of Itanagar. The land of the district is mostly mountains with Himalayan ranges. Trees of great size, hundreds of variety of orchids, plentiful of climbers, bamboos and cane are found in the district.

The district is spread over an area of approximately 2875 sq kms inhabited by a population of more than 120000 people and there are two towns and 274 villages in the district, the district is divided into two administrative sub-divisions namely Itangar capital complex sub-division and Sagalee Sub-division. The district of Papum Pare has nine administrative circles being Naharlagun, Itangar, Doimukh, Balijan, Kimin, Laiporiang, Toru, Mengio and Sagalee. The district is bounded by the East Kameng district in the West, the state of Assam to the South, lower Subansiri District to the east and Kurung Kumey District to the north.

Government Colleges in Papum Pare District:

The District of Papum Pare has eight higher education institutions of which one is Rajiv Gandhi University, which is the only central university in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The district also has a Deemed University known as North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology, four colleges are private colleges, two other colleges are government colleges and the names, and some of the details regarding these two government colleges are given below:

Dera Natung Government College:

Dera Natung College came into existence in the year 1979 on the 6th of September and the college offers arts, science and commerce education with affiliation from the Rajiv Gandhi University. The college offers UG courses both at the honors and at pass level and the college follows non-semester pattern of education. Different departments are functioning under the college for offering honors and pass courses and the departments offering honors courses are English, Hindi, geography, economics, political science, history, education, management, botany, zoology and chemistry. Almost all these department offer pass courses as well under B. Sc and B.A courses.

Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic:

This college was established by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in the year 2002 for offering diploma course in different branches of engineering.

Thus, with these two government colleges and several other private colleges offer the best education in Papum Pare District.
