In the course of the MBA degree from Gujarat Technological University, a student has to qualify seven subjects in the second semester. One of the papers in the list of the seven subjects is Production and Operations Management Papers. It is coded as 820006, and carries a credit of three to be multiplied with the grade obtained in this particular subject. This paper deals with the operation management and its functions and the strategies involved in this sector.

Paper pattern:

There are five questions in total in the paper and one is to attempt the entire question. There are two sub parts in all these questions and there are a total of 7 marks for each sub part. There are options in terms of the questions but there are no fixed options patterns. There might be a option for a sub part or an entire question. Each question is of fourteen marks each and are all essay type questions.

Maximum marks and the time allotted:

The paper on Production and Operations Management is a two and a half hour paper and the maximum marks attainable are 70, as there are five questions of 14 marks each.

Some of the commonly encountered questions in the paper are definition of terms like EOQ, productivity, Total quality management, JIT, and few other terms related to the operation strategies. Other questions include concurrent engineering, types of plant layout, maximum retail price and the strategies involved behind MRP, the concepts of Operations Scheduling and its applications. Concepts of demand forecasting and the advantages and disadvantages associated with this topic. Students are also asked to draw an arrow diagram for the representation of activity.
