How to prepare for various Medical Entrance Exams

There are more than a few medical entrance exams that are being held in our country. The announcements for the exams will appear in all leading newspapers in the month of January usually. The exams will most probably be carried out in March – April. Some exams will be held in May – June. The candidates need to prepare extensively before they appear for the exam.

Medical Entrance Exams Pattern

The medical entrance exams are carried out at nation-wide and at state level too. Besides this, some of the medical institutions also carry out their own exams. The syllabus of these exams will be of class 12th. Questions will be from Physics, Chemistry and Biology topics at 11th and 12th CBSE/ICSE and state boards. Most of the time, questions are objective in nature and there will be usually 200 questions and time allotted in 3 hours. There will be usually negative marking for wrong answers, with some exceptions in some state level or specific private institutions exams.

Students who have completed their class 12 with a milieu in science are eligible to apply for this exam. Some exams will require the students to have a pass in the B.S or Pre Medical background.

General guidelines for preparing for Medical Entrance Exams

There are some things that the students should bear in mind before they appear for the exams. They are:

  • Candidates should read their notes and practice writing it down everyday.
  • They should first tackle the hard part and then get to the easy part. They will be able to cover all their portions this way.
  • Studying sample papers of the preceding years will help the students stay informed about the syllabus as well as the latest changes in the question pattern.
  • Always be prepared to work hard and put up a systematic study plan

Set up a full proof study Plan

The students must make certain that they study almost 4 hours each day. If possible they can do more each day especially target the weekends and holidays to cover more topics. Also allot certain days to revise and attempt sample papers. Reading notes almost constantly will help them imprint it in their minds. This will be of great help at their exams.

Ladders in preparing for the Exam

The candidates should plan their timings sensibly. Getting acquainted with the study materials will help the students be sharper and they will be more focused. The study time should be devoted solely for that purpose. However, taking some breaks at the appropriate times will also be good.  The best method for the students to prepare themselves is to do sample papers of the similar type. Attempting these papers will aid the students to become more concentrated and thus they will get more confidence.
